Lotus Refineries, led by Chairman Arun Kumar Sharma, is accused of squandering Rs. 252.48 crores owed to investors on the National Spot Exchange Limited (NSEL). An investigation found that Sharma took money from NSEL and diverted it to real estate projects, office interiors, and financing Bollywood films, instead of returning it as owed. The Economic Offenses Wing has seized several of Lotus Refineries' assets, including offices, flats, bungalows, a factory, and machinery.

about Rs. 159 crore from the exchange but the money
was spent on buying real estate, decorating offices and
producing films. He had no intention of returning the
money to NSEL
