New business models and different operating paradigm, leveraged by thechnology, will induce massive economical and social transformations Sustainability, Greenification, Circular Economy Electrification will play bigger roles, inducing a rebalance in geopolitical power map A huge opportunity for Start-ups to innovate and drive: BioTech, Healthcare (will be rebooted), Agriculture, Food Processing, Distribution Retail, On-line Education, Public Administration (simplification, integration, CX), Digital Transformation, On-line social interaction, work entertainment, E-commerce, AR/VR Looking for ways to contribute to society Very busy analysing their portfolios and minimising risk - an important of their portfolios might be wiped out Deploying reserve money to their stratups who need more runway and that have the best chances of thriving, others might get little attention Involved in public policy and lobbying governments to consider start-ups in rescue/aid packages Looking for new investment opportunities in sectors that will be in demand, but most valuations will be lower What Is Happening There is a clear and present threat to people s lives There is a new economic order – this is a conscious shutdown, trading jobs for people s lives There is a new social standard – distancing, stay at home, remote work and new socialization mechanisms Most people and businesses were forced to make a complete Digital Transformation in less than a month Supply Chains have been disrupted and any business relying on physical proximity/contact is being redifined Sectors, products business models are being re- visited Immediate market opportunities: Medical Food Supplies, At home delivery logistics, Match making demand and supply of critical goods and services, On- line everything technology, … A black swan event , a tectonic shift in the market that suddenly redefines a new operating paradigm. Look for ways to contribute to mitigate the crisis and take care of your people Review your cash, runway, revenues, product business model. Be ruthless with cost, stay lean and focus on what really matters. Evaluate your strategic positioning in the (new) market: make sure your product can ride the wave and the trend is your friend. If not, consider pivoting or closing (check government help, treat your people well!). Talk to your investors, secure your cashflow runway, look into a bridge round, fundraise if required Think differently, be innovative and original Market well and cleverly (webinars, podcasts, …), stay sexy to your customers and investors Do what lean agile companies ( start ups) do best: adapt evolve This is a huge opportunity!
