FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PENTAGON INVITES DIANA POTTS TO JOIN SUSTAINABILITY PANEL
FAYETTEVILLE – Diana Potts, Business Development Specialist at the North
Carolina Military Business Center (NCMBC) joined a Green Sustainability panel at the
Pentagon in Washington, DC this January. Chosen as one of the 20 top environmental
and sustainability experts in the U.S., Potts and panel members discussed ways to help
Federal Agencies implement Sustainability plans to meet the goals required by Executive
Order 13514.
President Barack Obama signed Executive Order 13514 in October 2009 to set
sustainability goals for federal agencies; focusing on making improvements in their
environmental, energy, and economic performance. Potts became an obvious choice to
sit on the panel in Washington, based on her success as an entrepreneur in the
environmental and government contracting fields and leadership in NCMBC Green
Procurement initiatives in North Carolina.
This is Potts’ second invite to the Pentagon as a participant on Sustainability. Potts served
once prior on a panel in Washington to address environmental issues in military
construction. Her recognition and awards makes her one of the foremost experts on bio-
based products and issues related to helping government agencies and industry to “go
green.”
Last month’s panel on sustainability demonstrates the federal government’s commitment
to reducing emissions and saving money; building momentum of the Recovery Act to
help create a clean energy economy. Panel discussion during the four day session
included: Conserving Energy, Conserving Water, Eliminating Waste, Reducing Carbon
Emissions, Sustainable Buildings, and Sustainable Products and Purchasing.
Top ideas were presented to the Steering Committee on Federal Sustainability – a group
comprised of one senior official from each agency who is responsible for delivering
among other things, each agency’s sustainability plan. Potts’ involvement helped in
creating strategies to assist federal agencies in implementation of the Executive Order.
To contact Ms. Potts, email potts@ncmbc.us or call 910-323-4825. For more
information on the NCMBC, please visit our website at www.ncmbc.us or call toll-free
877-245-5520.
