  • 24. Avant  is a freeware web browser from a Chinese programmer named Anderson Che, which unites the Trident layout engine built into Windows (see Internet Explorer shell) with an interface intended to be more feature-rich, flexible and ergonomic than Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE). It runs on Windows 98 and above, including Windows Vista. Internet Explorer version 6, 7 or 8 must be installed. As of November 2008, total downloads surpassed 22.5 million. Avant Browser is currently available in 41 languages.
  • 25. History and development Avant Browser was largely inspired by Opera, the first major browser to have a multiple document interface. The developer's objective was to wrap a comparable interface around the layout engine used by Internet Explorer, thereby achieving Opera-like ergonomics without suffering the frequent problems that browser had rendering pages tested only in IE. In fact it was initially released under the name "IEopera", though this was soon changed due to the obvious trademark issues.

  • 58. deepnet refers to World Wide Web content that is not part of the Surface Web, which is indexed by standard search engines. Mike Bergman, credited with coining the phrase, has said that searching on the Internet today can be compared to dragging a net across the surface of the ocean; a great deal may be caught in the net, but there is a wealth of information that is deep and therefore missed. Most of the Web's information is buried far down on dynamically generated sites, and standard search engines do not find it. Traditional search engines cannot "see" or retrieve content in the deep Web – those pages do not exist until they are created dynamically as the result of a specific search. The deep Web is several orders of magnitude larger than the surface Web.
  • 59. Size In 2000, it was estimated that the deep Web contained approximately 7,500 terabytes of data and 550 billion individual documents.Estimates based on extrapolations from a study done at University of California, Berkeley in the year 2000, speculate that the deep Web consists of about 91,000 terabytes. By contrast, the surface Web (which is easily reached by search engines) is about 167 terabytes; the Library of Congress, in 1997, was estimated to have 3,000 terabytes.
  • 60. Naming Bergman, in a seminal, early paper on the deep Web published in the Journal of Electronic Publishing, mentioned that Jill Ellsworth used the term invisible Web in 1994 to refer to websitesthat are not registered with any search engine. Bergman cited a January 1996 article by Frank Garcia: "It would be a site that's possibly reasonably designed, but they didn't bother to register it with any of the search engines. So, no one can find them! You're hidden. I call that the invisible Web.” Another early use of the term invisible Web was by Bruce Mount and Matthew B. Koll of Personal Library Software, in a description of the @1 deep Web tool found in a December 1996 press release. The first use of the specific term deep Web, now generally accepted, occurred in the aforementioned 2001 Bergman study.

  • 62. Unlinked content: pages which are not linked to by other pages, which may prevent Web crawling programs from accessing the content. This content is referred to as pages without backlinks (or inlinks).
  • 63. Private Web: sites that require registration and login (password-protected resources).
  • 64. Contextual Web: pages with content varying for different access contexts (e.g., ranges of client IP addresses or previous navigation sequence).
  • 65. Limited access content: sites that limit access to their pages in a technical way (e.g., using the Robots Exclusion Standard, CAPTCHAs, or no-cache Pragma HTTP headers which prohibit search engines from browsing them and creating cached copied.

  • 67. Features Set Phase Out has most of the essential features, but still lacks some of the nice bonus features such as a password manager, feeds, or parental controls. s a neat idea, but the browser seems a bit too distracting. The interface seemed just a little too busy and sacrificed speed. Phase Out is interesting, but not very intuitive, and lacking in features. We recommend using Firefox with an add-on skin if you need to personalize your browser's look. Or compare Phase Out with Google Chrome or Opera. Ease of Use Phase Out aims to be completely customizable and tailored to easy surfing. While the remote function is innovative, it seems unnecessary and doesn't add a lot of utility. Phase Out provides most of the tools of a good browser, but they are not as easy to use as we would like. Security Phase Out comes with top-notch security features, including anti-phishing. Since it's Internet Explorer based you can also remove your browsing history quickly. Speed and Compatibility Phase Out is completely compatible with Internet Explorer, but on our computers ran a bit slower than we'd like. The futuristic look is neat, but not if you have to sacrifice speed. Refer to our Internet browser time trials to find the fastest browser.
  • 68. CAmino is a free, open source, GUI-based Web browser based on Mozilla's Gecko layout engine and specifically designed for the Mac OS X operating system. In place of an XUL-based user interface used by most Mozilla-based applications, Camino uses Mac-native Cocoa APIs. In late 2001, Mike Pinkerton and Vidur Apparao started a project within Netscape to prove that Gecko could be embedded in a Cocoa application. In early 2002 Dave Hyatt, one of the co-creators of Firefox (then called Phoenix), joined the team and built Chimera, a small, lightweight browser wrapper, around their work. The first downloadable build of Chimera 0.1 was released on February 13, 2002. The early releases became popular due to their fast page-loading speeds (as compared with then-dominant Mac browser, Microsoft's Internet Explorer version 5).

  • 72. Seamonkey The SeaMonkey project is a community effort to develop the SeaMonkey all-in-one internet application suite (see below). Such a software suite was previously made popular by Netscape and Mozilla, and the SeaMonkey project continues to develop and deliver high-quality updates to this concept. Containing an Internet browser, email & newsgroup client with an included web feed reader, HTML editor, IRC chat and web development tools, SeaMonkey is sure to appeal to advanced users, web developers and corporate users.
  • 73. The name "SeaMonkey" To avoid confusion to those who still wish to use the original Mozilla Suite, you needed a new name for the new product. After initial speculation by members of the community, the July 2, 2005an announcement confirmed that "SeaMonkey" was officially the name of this suite of Internet, replacing the name "Mozilla Application Suite "."Seamonkey", an English name that corresponds to the brine shrimp, was a name formerly used by the Mozilla Foundation (and earlier by Netscape) and the codename of the Mozilla Suite itself. The SeaMonkey Council is in the process of registering the name with the help of the Mozilla Foundation. It also uses a separate numbering scheme, having been called the first version ofSeaMonkey 1.0. Despite having a name and number of different version, SeaMonkey 1.0 is based on what was to be Mozilla Suite1.8, Gecko 1.8 platform.

  • 75. netsurf NetSurf is an open source web browser which runs on a variety of platforms including RISC OS, AmigaOS and Unix-like systems. NetSurf has features that include tabbed browsing, text selection and PDFexport. Running on other platforms is also possible by building from source, with the developers intending to add further binaries when time can be found to do so. The NetSurf project was started in April 2002 in response to a discussion of the deficiencies of the RISC OS platform's existing web browsers. Shortly after the project's inception, development versions for RISC OS users were made available for download by the project'sautomated build system. NetSurf was voted "Best non-commercial software" four times in Drobe Launchpad's annual RISC OS awards between 2004 and 2008
  • 76. Features NetSurf's multi-platform core is written in ANSI C, and implements most of the HTML 4 and CSS 2.1 specifications using its own bespoke layout engine. As of version 2.0, NetSurf uses Hubbub, an HTML parser that follows the work-in-progress HTML5 specification. As well as rendering GIF, JPEG, PNG and BMP images, the browser also supports formats native to RISC OS, including Sprite, Draw and Art Works files. As of 2010, NetSurf has no support for JavaScript.
