This document describes a Buddhist monastery built into the mountains in Shanxi, China. The monastery is located in an extremely remote and inaccessible area, only reachable via over 400 steep stone steps carved into the cliffside. It makes one wonder how the monks were able to construct such an elaborate building complex so high in the mountains, and how they obtain water, power, and other utilities given the remote location. The document suggests the monastery was built in one of the most scenic but extreme locations, as is common for Buddhist monasteries seeking isolation and beauty.

This is amazing
and we have to wonder how,
why and when did they do this.
From where & how do they get
water...power....sewer.....?
How did they build all this??
And why..way.."up there"!!
My best guess is that this is a Buddhist Monestary – They
are noted for building in the most extreme, inacessible, but
scenicly speaking, some of the most beautiful places there
is.
