Overview of OPE Budget Issues

                  February 23, 2011
Continuing Resolution*

 Current status: We believe the TPSID funding
is NOT eliminated in the CR, however it is not
clear whether the funding for the OPE model
demo funds for faculty training are cut in the
    CR.

*Funding from March 4 – September 30, 2011
Current Activities

 Testimony
Letter for organizations to sign on
 (e.g., NDSS, AUCD, Kennedy Center)
 Community College Consortium
 Individual efforts/outreach to Congress
Current statement/strategy*

 We support advocacy toward maintaining level
support for both the TPSID funding and the
OPE Model Demos. It would be best to focus
advocacy efforts on the CR and NOT on the
    Presidents budget at this time.

The President’s Budget
The President’s Budget for FY 2012 (beginning October 1, 2011)
has eliminated funds for two programs in the Office of
Postsecondary Education. These are:

Transition Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities
into Higher Education (TPSID)

Demonstration Projects to Support Postsecondary
Faculty, Staff, and Administrations in Educating Students with
Disabilities

These two programs would be subsumed into the Fund for the
Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) which
could eliminate the focus of these crucial programs for college
students with disabilities including intellectual disabilities.
