1. Going Mad Without Power
UPDATE
“I was going mad without power,” said Kylie, one of the younger residents who was affected by the loss of power due to outages caused Sunday,
s Sunday
August 28th by Hurricane Irene. Only three days later, Sturgeon’s Colorado district had organized and began deploying manpower and
equipment resources to Connecticut to restore power for customers of Connecticut Light & Power, a subsidiary of Northeastern Utilities.
In CL&P’s 100-year history, no other storm has caused as much damage or as many outages. CL&P had over 670,000 outages at the peak,
and customers were informed it could take over a week to restore power. Over the course of six days, Sturgeon was able to restore power
to Kylie, her family and numerous other residents, leading Kylie to declare Nate Gutierrez, a Journeyman Lineman for Sturgeon, her "hero".
Special recognition goes to Mark Sterkel, Sturgeon Colorado T&D Vice President; Tim Wargo and Bill Mercer, General Foremen; Jim
Ortega, Colton Boxberger and Eddie Voit of Sturgeon’s fleet department and all associated crewmembers for their outstanding and heroic
efforts to quickly organize resources, mobilize crews, and work safely and efficiently to restore power to customers of CL&P.
