What You Need to Know About Secure Access Service Edge (SASE)
The technology world has expanded over time. In the old days, you found company staff within
the office setting and the data and applications they needed to use on the systems on their
desktop. A secure, onsite data center backed up those systems. However today, we find more
companies working in the remote realm and physically onsite. So now, those same businesses are
not only using secure, onsite data centers but also cloud-based applications and secure storage.
This remote operation has made employees more dispersed throughout the world. With that has
come new challenges for businesses to ensure that the data accessed and used by their remote
employees are just as protected as those in the office. Many businesses have been using VPN’s
(Virtual Private Networks) for remote workers however the more workers on that VPN, the
slower that network runs. If an employee decides to bypass the VPN completely they place their
employer at risk for security gaps that can affect their entire network.
That is where SASE comes in. It helps today’s businesses move their data and applications where
users need it most, in the cloud. By doing so, businesses can get their employees the access they
need with less complexity, In addition, they can improve the networking speeds and offer secure
SD-WAN-enabled architecture. SASE is allowing more businesses to stay up to date with the
current needs of their employees while limiting their exposure to cybersecurity threats.
For many businesses, the big question is how can SASE help them? Let’s look at a few of the
important components of SASE:
● SD-WAN
○ SD-WAN is cloud-delivered architecture that helps the end-users have a smooth
and more predictable experience. It also provides a more consistent, multi-cloud
architecture while offering top-notch security.
● Cloud Security
○ Cloud security helps protect users from vulnerabilities and threats. It also helps
businesses enforce stronger policies to protect their data, systems, and
applications. This extra security gives businesses peace of mind when extending
access to those systems and the data contained within them to remote users. Not
to mention it allows the user to gain access securely and quickly.
● Zero Trust Network Access
○ With Zero Trust Network Access, users' identities are verified quickly and their
devices are verified as trusted before access is granted to a business's private
system and applications. This helps to prevent unauthorized access to these
systems as well as limit breaches and cyber attacks on those networks.
The benefits of using SASE are vast but some of the key points to remember are that:
● SASE typically offers a lower start-up cost for businesses than other approaches offered
on the market. That’s because SASE utilizes the cloud so companies are spending far less
on hardware and software.
● SASE gives full control and visibility to the business by utilizing those cloud-based
functions like firewall as a service (FWaaS), secure web gateway (SWG), data loss
prevention (DLP), and SaaS security via cloud access security broker (CASB)
functionality.
● Network and security teams no longer have to learn multiple systems. With SASE they
can easily configure and manage different systems from one convenient cloud-based
interface.
● Utilizing SASE also makes monitoring and reporting a breeze. That’s because the days of
monitoring across multiple networks and security products and then creating separate
reports to monitor key metrics are over. SASE allows easy monitoring in a singular way
that now allows them to simplify their troubleshooting and respond to incidents faster.
SASE offers businesses better network performance and reliability in a single pane cloud-based
environment that offers ease in connection for users. It’s a simplified version for today’s modern
business. It’s important to stay up to date with current business trends and needs. SASE is the
answer to those needs.
That’s what makes SASE the next step in the evolution of your business. If you want to save
time and money while getting peace of mind when it comes to cybersecurity, then SASE is
exactly what your business needs. Can you afford anything less than the peace of mind that
SASE brings? The answer to that question is a resounding no. Attackers are just waiting to gain
access to a system and exploit the data within that system. With SASE, businesses are protecting
sensitive business data and their employees in one easy, cloud-based system.
