Wat Phra Kaeo
Wat Phrasrirattana Sasadaram (Wat Phra
Kaeo), or the Temple of the Emerald Buddha,
situated within the Grand Palace, near Sanam
Luang, is a sacred symbol of the Rattanako-
sin, or Bangkok, Dyansty. It was built by King
Rama I, the founder of the Chakri Dynasty,
at the same time as the Grand Palace in 1782,
when he established Bangkok as his capital, in
order to serve as the palace chapel, in which
traditional royal ceremonies would be con-
ducted. It thus has a sanctuary for the perfor-
mance of Buddhist rites, but no residences for
monks.

9. Wat Ratchanatdaram is a buddhist
temple located at the intersection be-
tween Ratchadamnoen Klang and Maha
Chai Road, in Phra Nakhon district,
Bangkok. Meaning Temple of the Royal
Niece, the temple was built to the order
of King Nangklao (Rama III) for the
princess granddaughter, Somanass Wad-
dhanawathy in 1846.

13. wat pho
The temple is first on the list of six tem-
ples in Thailand classed as the highest grade
of the first-class royal temples.It is associat-
ed with King Rama I who rebuilt the tem-
ple complex on an earlier temple site, and
became his main temple where some of his
ashes are enshrined.The temple was later ex-
panded and extensively renovated by Rama
III. The temple complex houses the largest
collection of Buddha images in Thailand,
including a 46 m long reclining Buddha. The
temple was also the earliest centre for pub-
lic education in Thailand, and still houses a
school of Thai medicine. It is known as the
birthplace of traditional Thai massage which
is still taught and practiced at the temple.

17. The buildings along the Ratcha Damnoen Av-
enue are parts of Bangkok’s architectural landscape
and history. These blocks were built along with the
construction of Ratcha Damnoen Avenue by order
of King Rama V. Leading from the Dusit Royal
Palace to the Grand Palace, the Ratcha Damnoen
avenue was laid out in the similar design to Paris’
Avenue des Champs-Elysees. The construction of
the Ratcha Damnoen Avenue began in 1899, while
that of the buildings along the Ratcha Damnone
Klang Avenue [Klang means “middle”] began in
1937. On both sides of the avenue, 40-metre-wide
strips of land were expropriated for the construction
of these blocks of buildings that were designed by
several architects. In keeping with the King Rama
V’s concept, the same design concept as that for the
Champs-Elysées was adopted.With a budget of 10
million baht, 15 buildings were erected on Ratcha
Damnoen Klang Avenues from 1937 to 1948 .
The Democracy Monument was also construct-
ed on the avenue in 1939.

ราชดำ�เนินเริ่มตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. ๒๔๔๒ ส่วนอาคารตลอดแนวถนนราชดำ�เนินกลางได้

named the Museum of Death, is a medi-
cal museum in Bangkok, Thailand. Siriraj
Medical Museum is open to the public
and is a valuable resource for medical

Congdon Anatomical Museum, Sood

25. วังหลัง คือ พระราชวังของสมเด็จเจ้าฟ้ากรมพระอนุรักษ์
เทเวศร์กรมพระราชวังบวรสถานภิมุข ในสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จ
พระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลก ถัดจากวังหลังลงไปทางวัดระฆังฯ เป็น
ตำ�บลสวนมังคุด ซึ่งมีวังที่ประทับเดิมของสมเด็จพระพี่นางเธอ
เจ้าฟ้ากรมพระยาเทพสุดาวดี และยังมีร่องรอยแนวกำ�แพงอิฐ
เก่าแก่อายุกว่าร้อยปีให้เห็นอยู่ ในปัจจุบันวังหลังเป็นที่ตั้งของ

29. The Ananta Samakom Throne Hall
ปัจจุบันใช้เป็นสถานที่จัดแสดงนิทรรศการถาวร ศิลป์แผ่นดิน โดย
สถาบันสิริกิติ์ สวนจิตรลดา ตั้งอยู่ใกล้กับพระบรมรูปทรงม้าและ
พระที่นั่งวิมานเมฆ พระที่นั่งอนันตสมาคมเริ่มก่อสร้างในสมัยรัชกาล
ที่ ๕ เพื่อเป็นที่รับรองแขกเมืองและประชุมปรึกษาราชการแผ่นดิน
ตัวอาคารเป็นอาคารมีลักษณะสถาปัตยกรรมแบบนีโอเรอเนสซองส์
(Neo Renaissance) และนีโอคลาสสิก (Neo classic) โดยตกแต่ง
พระที่นั่งด้วยหินอ่อน ซึ่งสั่งมาจากเมืองคารารา ประเทศอิตาลี โดย
มีจุดเด่น คือ มีหลังคาโดมคลาสสิกของโรมอยู่ตรงกลาง และมีโดม
เล็กๆโดยรอบอีก 6 โดม รวมทั้งสิ้นมี 7 โดม โดยโดมทั้งหมดทำ�ขึ้น
จากทองแดง (ต่อมาเกิดสนิมสีเขียวขึ้นตามกาลเวลา) ขนาดขององค์
พระที่นั่ง ฯ ส่วนกว้างประมาณได้ 49.50 เมตร ยาว 112.50 เมตร
และสูง 49.50 เมตร ใช้เวลาในการก่อสร้างทั้งสิ้นแปดปี

serves as a museum and is from time to
time employed for certain state occa-
sions. One year after the completion
of the Amphorn Satharn Villa within
the Dusit Palace in 1906, King Chu-
lalongkorn (Rama V) commissioned
the construction of a reception hall to
replace the one built during the reign of
King Mongkut (Rama IV.).

Grand palace
The Grand Palace is a complex of build-
ings at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand.
The palace has been the official residence
of the Kings of Siam (and later Thailand)
since 1782. The king, his court and his royal
government were based on the grounds of
the palace until 1925. The present mon-
arch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX),
currently resides at Chitralada Royal Villa
in the Dusit Palace, but the Grand Palace
is still used for official events. Several royal
ceremonies and state functions are held
within the walls of the palace every year.
The palace is one of the most popular tour-
ist attractions in Thailand.

Wachirabenchathat Park or State
Railway Public Park is a name of
public park in Chatuchak district,
Bangkok, Thailand. It was opened
on 28 July 2002 and named by the
Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn. The park
borders on the Queen Sirikit Park and
Chatuchak Park, and it is also the larg-
est park of the complex, covering an
area of 0.6 square kilometres. It is one
of the most popular parks in Bangkok.
