This is my way of thinking.

1. Here’s some good
old
Chinese wisdom!
‫هذه قصة جميلة من أمثال الحكمة‬
‫الصينية‬

2. ‫كان عند امرأه‬ An elderly
‫صينية مسنة‬ Chinese woman
‫إناءين كبيرين تنقل‬ had two large
،‫بهما الماء‬ pots, each hung
‫وتحملهما مربوطين‬ on the ends of
‫بعمود خشبي على‬ a pole, which
‫كتفيها‬ she carried
across her
neck.

3. One of the pots ‫وكان أحد الناءين‬
had a crack in it ‫به شرخ والناء‬
while the other ‫الخر بحالة تامة‬
pot was perfect
‫ول ينقص منه‬
and always
delivered a full ‫شيء من الماء‬
portion of
water.

4. ‫وفى كل مرة كان‬ At the end of
‫الناء المشروخ‬ the long walk
‫يصل إلى نهاية‬ from the
‫المطاف من النهر‬ stream to the
‫إلى المنزل وبه‬ house, the
cracked pot
‫نصف كمية الماء‬
arrived only
‫فقط‬ half full.

5. For a full two ‫ولمدة سنتين‬
years this went ‫كاملتين كان هذا‬
on daily, with the ‫يحدث مع السيدة‬
woman bringing ‫الصينية، حيث‬
home only one ‫كانت تصل منزلها‬
and a half pots
‫بإناء واحد مملوء‬
of water.
‫ونصف‬

6. ‫وبالطبع، كان الناء‬ Of course, the
‫السليم مزهوً بعمله‬
‫ا‬ perfect pot was
‫الكامل‬ proud of its
accomplishments.

7. ‫وكان الناء‬
But the poor
cracked pot ‫ا‬
ً‫المشروخ محتقر‬
was ashamed ‫لنفسه لعدم قدرته‬
of its own ‫وعجزه عن إتمام‬
imperfection, ‫ما هو متوقع منه‬
and miserable
that it could
only do half of
what it had
been made to
do.

8. ‫وفى يوم من اليام‬ After 2 years
‫وبعد سنتين من‬ of what it
‫المرارة والحساس‬ perceived to
‫بالفشل تكلم الناء‬ be bitter
‫المشروخ مع‬ failure, it
‫السيدة الصينية‬ spoke to the
woman one day
by the
stream.

9. “I am ashamed ‫“أنا خجل جدَ من‬
‫ا‬
of myself, ‫نفسي لني عاجز‬
because this ‫ولدي شرخ يسرب‬
crack in my ‫الماء على الطريق‬
side causes “‫للمنزل‬
water to
leak out all
the way back
to your
house.”

10. ‫فابتسمت المرأة‬ The old woman
‫الصينية وقالت “ألم‬ smiled, “Did you
‫تلحظ الزهور التى‬ notice that
there are
‫على جانب الطريق‬
flowers on your
‫من ناحيتك وليست‬ side of the
‫على الجانب‬ path, but not on
“‫الخر؟‬ the other pot’s
side?

11. That’s because I ‫أنا أعلم تمام ً عن‬
‫ا‬
have always ‫الماء الذى ُفقد‬
‫ي‬
known about your
‫منك ولهذا الغرض‬
flaw, so I planted
flower seeds on ‫غرست البذور على‬
your side of the ‫طول الطريق من‬
path, and every ‫جهتك حتى ترويها‬
day while we ‫فى طريق عودتك‬
walk back, you ‫للمنزل‬
water them.”

12. “For two years I have been
able to pick these beautiful
flowers to decorate the
table.”
‫“ولمدة سنتين متواصلتين كنت أقطف من‬
“‫هذه الزهور الجميلة لزين بها منزلي‬

13. Without you being just the way
you are, there would not be
this beauty to grace the
house.”
‫ما لم تكن أنت بما‬
‫أنت فيه، ما كان لي‬
‫أن أجد هذا الجمال‬
‫الذي يزين منزلي‬

14. Each of us has his own unique
flaw… ‫ك ٌ منا لديه ضعفه‬
‫ل‬

15. But it’s the cracks and flaws we
each have that make our lives
together so very interesting and
rewarding.
‫ولكن شروخنا وضعفنا تضع حياتنا مع ً بطريقة‬
‫ا‬
‫عجيبة ومثيرة‬

16. You’ve just got to take each person
for what they are and look for
the good in them.
‫يجب علينا جميع ً أن نتقبل بعضنا البعض على ما‬
‫ا‬
‫نحن فيه وللنظر لما هو حس ٌ لدينا‬
‫ن‬

17. ‫‪To all of my crackpot friends, have a‬‬
‫‪great day and remember to smell the‬‬
‫.‪flowers, on your side of the path‬‬
‫لكل أحبائي الذين يشعرون بالعجز أو النقص في‬
‫الخرين أو في أنفسهم أتمنى لكم يوما عظيم ً‬

‫وأن تشموا الزهور التى بجانبكم من الطريق‬
