A. Remove the torque converter, the transmission, and the transfer gears (scraper).
B. Remove the transmission oil pump (scraper).
C. Remove transmission hydraulic control valve (scraper).
D. Remove the transmission oil filter (scraper).
E. Remove the relief valve (transmission lubrication) (scraper).

1. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter (2). The weight of
torque converter (2) is approximately 184 kg (405 lb). Remove bolts (1) and torque
converter (2) .
2. Position torque converter (2) onto suitable cribbing.
3. Remove O-ring seal (3) .

4. Attach Tooling (A), Tooling (B), and Tooling (C) to planetary gear assembly and transfer
gear case (4). The weight of transmission planetary and transfer gear case (4) is
approximately 630 kg (1390 lb). Reposition transmission planetary and transfer gear case
(4) onto Tooling (D) and suitable cribbing.
5. Remove O-ring seal (6) and bolts (5) .
6. Use Tooling (E) to separate transmission planetary (7) from the transfer gear case. Raise
transmission planetary (7) to install Tooling (C) .
7. Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to transmission planetary (7). The weight of
transmission planetary (7) is approximately 315 kg (695 lb). Remove transmission planetary
(7) .

1. Install Tooling (E) approximately 38 mm (1.5 inch) below the housing of transmission
planetary (7) .
2. Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to transmission planetary (7). The weight of
transmission planetary (7) is approximately 315 kg (695 lb). Position transmission planetary
(7) in the transfer gear case.
3. Remove Tooling (C) and the suitable lifting device.
4. Use Tooling (E) to lower transmission planetary (7) into position. Remove Tooling (E) .
5. Install bolts (5) and O-ring seal (6) .
6. Install O-ring seal (3) .

7. Attach Tooling (A), Tooling (B), and Tooling (C) to transmission planetary and transfer
gear case (3). The weight of transmission planetary and transfer gear case is approximately
630 kg (1390 lb). Reposition transmission planetary and transfer gear case (3) onto Tooling
(D) and suitable cribbing.
8. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter (2). The weight of
torque converter (2) is approximately 184 kg (405 lb). Install torque converter (2) and bolts
(1) .
End By:
a. Install the relief valve (transmission lubrication) (scraper).
b. Install the transmission oil filter (scraper).
c. Install transmission hydraulic control valve (scraper).
d. Install the transmission oil pump (scraper).
e. Install the torque converter, the transmission, and the transfer gears (scraper).

a. Remove the hood.
b. Remove the driveshaft.
c. Remove the push-pull hook.
1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant
(ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

2. Remove bolt (1). Disconnect harness assembly (2). Disconnect harness assembly (3).
Disconnect hose assembly (4).
3. Disconnect hose assembly (5).
4. Disconnect harness assembly (6). Remove bolts (7) and bolt (8).

5. Remove dipstick (10). Disconnect harness assemblies (9) and (12). Disconnect cable
assembly (11).
6. Disconnect cable assembly (14). Disconnect harness assemblies (15) and (16).
7. Remove bolts (18) and reposition baffle (17) out of the way.

Note: Refer to Special Instruction, REHS8231, "Removal Procedures for Diesel Exhaust
Fluid (DEF) Connectors" for the correct removal procedure of hose assembly (21).
8. Disconnect harness assemblies (19). Disconnect hose assembly (21) and hoses (20) and
(22).
9. Disconnect harness assembly (23).

10. Disconnect harness assembly (25). Remove bolt (24).
11. Disconnect harness assembly (26) and remove bolts (27).
12. Remove bolts (28).

13. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to power pack (29). The weight of power
pack (29) is approximately 2268 kg (5000 lb).
14. Remove bolts (30) and bolts (31). Repeat for the other side.
15. Remove power pack (29).

16. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to position power pack (29) onto Tooling (B).
Installation Procedure
1. Install power pack (29) in the reverse order of removal.

a. Remove the torque converter. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Torque Converter -
Remove".

1. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove retaining ring (1) from carriage support assembly (2).
Remove carriage support assembly (2) from hub (3). Use Tooling (B) and a suitable
hydraulic press in order to remove the sleeve bearing from carriage support assembly (2).
2. Remove bolts (4) from impeller (5). Remove bolts (6) and clamp plate (7) from impeller
hub (8).
3. Install Tooling (C) into impeller (5). Use Tooling (C) in order to remove impeller (5) and
impeller hub (8) from housing (9).

4. Remove thrust race (10) from impeller (5). Remove impeller hub (8) from impeller (5).
5. Remove thrust bearing (11) and seal ring (12A) from carrier assembly (12).
6. Remove carrier assembly (12) and stator (13) as a unit from housing (9).

7. Position carrier assembly (12) and stator (13), as shown. Use Tooling (A) in order to
remove retaining ring (14) from stator (13). Remove thrust race (15) from stator (13).
8. Remove freewheel rollers (17) and freewheel springs (16) from freewheel cam (18).
Remove stator (13) from carrier assembly (12).
9. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove retaining ring (19) from stator (13). Remove side plate
(20) from stator (13).

10. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press in order to remove freewheel cam (18) from stator
(13).
11. Remove thrust bearing (21) from carrier assembly (12). Remove sleeve bearing (22) from
carrier assembly (12).
12. Remove turbine (23) and hub (3) as a unit from housing (9).

13. Remove thrust bearing (24) and thrust race (25) from hub (3).
14. Position turbine (23), as shown. Remove thrust race (26) from hub (3). Put an alignment
mark on turbine (23) and hub (3) for installation purposes. Remove bolts (27) from turbine
(23).
15. Remove clamp ring (28) and turbine (23) from hub (3).

1. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to housing assembly (2) . Reposition
housing assembly (2) onto Tooling (B). The weight of housing assembly (2) is
approximately 73 kg (160 lb).
2. Remove bolts (1) and lift housing assembly (2) from torque converter assembly (3).
3. Reposition torque converter assembly (3) on Tooling (B) as shown. The weight of torque
converter assembly (3) is approximately 34 kg (76 lb).

5. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to cover assembly (5). Remove cover
assembly (5) from torque converter assembly (3).
6. Remove clutch piston (6).

7. Remove friction disk (7). Remove bolts (10) and shaft retainer (8). Remove hub (9) and seal
rings.
8. Remove bolts (12). Remove bearing retainer (11). Remove retaining ring (13). Remove
upper bearing race (16). Remove retaining ring (14). Remove bearing (15).
9. Reposition torque converter assembly (3) on Tooling (B) as shown. The weight of torque
converter assembly (3) is approximately 34 kg (76 lb).

11. Attach Tooling (A) to impeller wheel assembly (18). Remove impeller wheel assembly (18).
The weight of impeller wheel assembly (18) is approximately 34 kg (76 lb).
12. Remove retaining ring (19) from bearing (20).

13. Use Tooling (E) to separate shaft assembly (21) from bearing assembly (20) and carrier
assembly (22).
14. Remove bolts (23). Use Tooling (F) to remove stator assembly (24) from carrier assembly
(22) and impeller wheel assembly (18).

15. Remove bolts (25). Use Tooling (C) to remove carrier assembly (22) from impeller wheel
assembly (18).
16. Using Tooling (C) and a suitable press to remove bearing (26) and gear (27) from carrier
assembly (22).
17. Remove seal ring (28).

18. Remove seal rings (29). Remove retaining ring (30) from shaft assembly (21).
19. Install Tooling (D).
Note: Tooling (D) must be seated on the shoulder of turbine (31) in order to support turbine
and prevent damage. Tooling (D) must not contact the splines on shaft (21).
