1. Refund Rules
Ticket Booking/cancellation Hours: 00.30 HRS to 11.30 HRS
IRCTC Service Charges for I-Ticket (Service charge levied is not Refundable):-

Refund Rules:-
Reservation Failed Transaction:-
If amount getting debited from customer account and ticket not issued, IRCTC will refund the entire Fare and
IRCTC service charges electronically(as credit to the relevant credit /debit card account used for the transaction),
but the bank/card transaction charges are likely to be forfeited.
IRCTC's payment reconciliation team works on a 24 x 7 basis, IRCTC offers no guarantees whatsoever for the
accuracy or timeliness of the refunds reaching the Customers card/bank accounts. This is on account of the
multiplicity of organizations involved in processing of online transactions, the problems with Internet infrastructure
currently available and working days/holidays of financial institutions.
Cancellation before Chart Preparation:-
All refund will be processed as per Extant Railway Rules:
Cancellation Charges:-
The amount deducted is based on the time of cancellation and the status of your ticket. Detailed
explanations are given below:-
For cancellation of confirmed tickets more than one day in advance of the scheduled departure of the train,
excluding the date of journey, the minimum cancellation charges based on the class of travel as follows: -

For cancellation of confirmed tickets less than 24 hrs and upto four hours before the scheduled departure of the
train, the cancellation charges will be 25% of the total fare paid by you, subject to flat minimum cancellation
charges for each class.
For cancellation of confirmed tickets less than four hours before the scheduled departure of the train and upto the
prescribed time limits as mentioned below, after actual departure of the train, the cancellation charges will be
50% of the fare paid by you, subject to flat minimum cancellation charges for each class.
Distance of Journey

For cancellation of RAC/Waitlisted tickets upto the prescribed time limits, full refund of fare will be given, after
deducting the clerkage charges per passenger. If you are having a ticket with several legs of journey, if the first
leg of the journey is confirmed the whole ticket will be treated as a confirmed ticket for purposes of applying
cancellation/refund rules. On the other hand if the first leg of the journey is in the waiting list, even if the all the
other legs of onward journey are confirmed, the whole ticket will still be treated only as waitlisted ticket for
purposes of grating refund.
Tatkal tickets - No refund will be granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets. For contingent cancellation &
waitlisted Tatkal ticket cancellations, charges will be deducted as per existing Railway rules. Partial cancellation
of Tatkal e-tickets is allowed but at least one passenger with ID card printed on ERS/VRM should not be
cancelled. On cancellation of all the passengers whose ID card details is printed on ERS/VRM, all the passengers
on that e-ticket will be cancelled.
I-Ticket
Cancellation is not possible on Internet. To cancel a ticket, the customer will have to submit the ticket at any
computerized reservation (PRS) counter. The fare paid by the customer will be refunded electronically (as credit
to the relevant credit/debit card account used for the transaction) after deducting cancellation charges. Bank
charges that are being levied by the Payment Gateway/Banks are not subject to refund in the event of
cancellation of tickets by the Customer. The cancellation charge is determined by the Indian Railway's rules for
cancellation and is based on the time of cancellation and the status of the ticket. IRCTC service charge is not
refunded. PRS counter will issue a cancellation ticket/receipt and IRCTC will credit the amount of refund due, to
the customer's account. No cash refund will be given to the Customer. For further details please refer to the
Indian Railways rules for Cancellation.
Cancellation of I-Tickets can be done on all PRS counters from 08:00 A.M. to 08:00 P.M. on weekdays and from
08:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Sundays. On closure of PRS counters at 08:00 P.M on weekdays and at 02:00 P.M.
on Sundays, the passenger may approach for cancellation at refund terminals provided at certa in stations. Such
cancellation through the refund terminals are allowed only for tickets available for travel on the same day and up
to 12 hrs on the following day. I-Tickets can also be cancelled at the boarding station, within 4 hours before the
scheduled departure of the train Upto 3 hrs after actual departure of train for tickets upto distance of 200 kms Up
to 6 hrs after departure of train for tickets upto a distance of 201 to 500 kms. Upto 12 hrs after actual departure of
train for tickets over a distance of 500 kms.
In the case of night trains leaving between 09.00 P.M. and 06.00 A.M. (actual departure) I-tickets can be
cancelled at PRS counters within the time limit specified in the cancellation rules or within four hours after the
opening of reservation office on the following day whichever is later.
In case refund terminals are not available due to any reason, to cancel such tickets, the passenger may get his
ticket cancelled manually through the stationmaster and get Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) and apply for refund to
IRCTC. Send your claim for refund to the following address attaching the original copy of the TDR to
GGM(IT),

IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Railways to process the refund and money of refund amount will be
credited back to same account through which payment was made after receiving the same from the concerned
Railways.
E-Ticket
E-Tickets (Reservations) can be cancelled only through Internet till Chart preparation of the train and it is not
allowed at face to face Railway Counters. If the user wishes to cancel his e-Ticket, he can do so till the time of
chart preparation for the train (which is normally 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train from the train
starting station) through the Internet. He can log on to www.irctc.co.in and go to Booked Tickets link and select
the ticket to be cancelled and can initiate the cancellation by selecting the passengers to be cancelled.
Cancellation would be confirmed online and the refund would be credited back to the account used for booking.
There will be no cash refund at any stage
3. If customer is not able to cancel through web interface before Chart Preparation, customers are requested to
s end their reques t through â€oeoffline cancellation― the link is available left navigation under heading of My
Transactions or the user has to send an email from the email ID to etickets@irctc.co.in from their registered
e-mail id with IRCTC.
If there is any partial cancellation of ticket please ensure that the modified ticket
(Electronic Reservation Slip) is printed separately.
In case the passenger travelling against e-Ticket is not carrying the printed copy of the "Electronic Reservation
Slip/VRM/SMS" during his/her journey, a nominal charge of Rs.50/- is chargeable by the TTE/ Conductor Guard
in the train against an excess fare ticket.
Cancellation in case of trains cancelled:-
I-Ticket:-
I-Ticket can be cancelled upto 72 hrs after the scheduled departure of train at any computerized reservation
counter.
Lost/misplaced of I-tickets:-
No refund is permissible against lost/misplaced tickets. Loss of tickets be reported to railways immediately to
prevent fraudulent use of lost tickets. However, duplicate ticket can be issued only in case of lost/torn/mutilated,
confirmed or RAC tickets and the passenger can travel on the accommodation reserved for him as per e xtant
Railway rules.
E-Ticket:-
If the train is marked as "CANCELLED" in PRS due to breaches, floods, accidents etc. full refund is permissible in
case the ticket is cancelled within three days of the scheduled departure of the train. In case of e -tickets, such
cancellations can be done by the customer through Internet.
The above rules of Indian Railways are subject to change without prior notice
e-ticket Cancellation after Chart Preparation:-
For Confirmed Tickets:-
Refund on confirmed reservation. The customers are requested to use the online TDR Filing & Status tracking
service provided by IRCTC. Select the "File TDR" Link in the left panel under the "My Transactions" menu for
filing TDR online IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Railways to process the refund and money of refund
amount will be credited back to same account through which payment was made after receiving the same from
the concerned Railways. In case of e-ticket to refund is processed by the Refund Office of the Zonal Railways in
whose jurisdiction the destination station of the train falls.
Online File TDR option is not available for Agent. If ticket booked through Agent the refund request should be
routed through Agent.
Whenever Agents receive such a request from their customers they are required to send a mail
to etickets@irctc.co.in containing following details.

customer for refund.

Train running Late by More than Three hours And Passenger Not Travelled:-
In case of train running late by more than three hours & the passenger not performing journey on this
account ,full refund is permitted subject to the condition that the ticket is surrendered/TDR obtained in
4. case of I-ticket, if is in E-ticket customer should file online/mail to IRCTC within the prescribed time limits
which are as under-

Fully Wait Listed Tickets:-
Full waitlist tickets the tickets in which on one PNR, all the passengers are on waitlist PNRs are dropped
from the reservation charts.
Such passengers are not required to send online request for cancellation. Tickets will be cancelled
automatically and money will be refunded in respective account electronically.
On a PNR which has all the passengers on waiting list at the time of charting, the names of such
waitlisted passengers will not appear in the charts and such passengers, if found travelling, will be
treated as unauthorized and charged accordingly. However, on a PNR which has some passengers
confirmed or RAC status and some on waiting List, all the names including those on waiting list will
appear in chart.
If Chart not prepared any of location such cases IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Railways to
process the refund and money of refund amount will be credited back to same account through which
payment was made after receiving the same from the concerned Railways.
Part confirm/RAC/Waiting List:-
If on one PNR there is more than one passenger and one passenger is having confirmed/RAC status and
rest is on waiting list or vice-versa, names of all the passengers booked on such PNR will appear in the
chart.
A certificate can be obtained from the Ticket Checking staff in the train regarding non-travelling of wait-listed
passengers on such tickets. Refund will be processed through TDR refund only after receiving the
original certificate. IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Railways along with original certificate to
process the refund and money of refund amount will be credited back to same account through which
payment was made after receiving the same from the concerned Railways.
If all such passengers do not want to travel before chart preparation, online cancellation can be done as
at present. However, after chart preparation, online request can be sent to IRCTC through TDR refund
for seeking refund. IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Railways to process the refund and
money of refund amount will be credited back to same account through which payment was made after
receiving the same from the concerned Railways.
Ticket deposit receipt(TDR) Rules and Procedure:-
About TDR :
TDR ( Ticket Deposit Receipt) If the customer was not able to perform the journey due to any /or the following
reason
1. Train Cancelled By Railways
2. Train running Late by More than Three hours And Passenger Not Travelled
3. Difference of Fare in case proper coach not attached
4. AC Failure
5. Travelled without proper ID proof
6. Wrongly charged by TTE
7. Party partially travelled
8. Passenger Not travelled
The users can apply for refund in such cases.
Ticket deposit receipt(TDR) Rules in case of I-Ticket:-
Online refund request is not allowed for i-ticket
Customers are requested to surrender the I-Ticket with the Station Master and obtain a Ticket Deposit
Receipt (TDR) within 30 days from the date of scheduled travel.

TDR Refund Rule (Miscellaneous Cases):
In case train is cancelled by the Rlys due to accidents, breaches or floods, Bandh or Rail Roko agitation
etc- full refund of the fare of entire booked journey will be granted .On line cancellation of such cases can
be done up to 72 hrs.
In case train is running late more than 3 hrs and Passenger has not travelled the TDR can be filed online.
In case proper coach is not attached-Difference of fare between the booked class and lower travelled
class will be refunded. Certificate from the TTE (in original) for the lower class travelled is must to claim
for refund.
(a) In case of AC failure of AC1class/Executive class- Difference of fare between AC1class or Executive
class and First Class will be refunded for the distance AC not worked. Certificate from the TTE (in
original) for the AC not worked is must to claim for refund.
(b)In case of AC failure of AC2/AC3 class- Difference of fare between AC2/AC3 class and Sleeper Class
will be refunded for the distance AC not worked. Certificate from the TTE (in original) for the AC not
worked is must to claim for refund.
(c)In case of AC failure of AC chair car class- Difference of fare between AC chair car class and second
class will be refunded for the distance AC not worked. Certificate from the TTE (in original) for the AC not
worked is must to claim for refund.
In case Travelling without proper ID proof-will be considered without ticket and will be charged
accordingly. Chief Commercial Manager/Refunds can be approached for discretionary refund. Excess
fare ticket (EFT) (in original) issued by the TTE is must to claim for refund.
In case of wrongly charged by the TTE-full refund will be granted by the Chief Commercial
Manager/Refunds. Excess fare ticket (EFT) (in original) issued by the TTE is must to claim for refund.
6. In case party/ family partially travelled- refund will be granted by the Chief Commercial Manager/Refunds
as per rule. Certificate from the TTE (in original) for deboarding before the destination has to be obtain
and submitted for claiming for refund.
In case passenger not travelled, refund will be granted by the Chief Commercial Manager/Refunds, on
merits, as per extant Railway rules.
Partially used reserved ticket by Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Jan Shatabadi Exp- No refund is allowed.
In case Rlys is not able to provide accommodation-full refund will be granted.
Part Confirm/RAC/Waiting List Ticket.
(a). If on one PNR there are more than one passenger and one passenger is having confirmed/RAC
status and rest are on waiting list or vice-versa, names of all the passengers booked on such PNR will
appear in the chart..
(b). A certificate can be obtained from the Ticket Checking staff in the train regarding non-travelling of
wait-listed passengers on such tickets. Refund will be processed through TDR refund only after receiving
the original certificate. IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Railways along with original certificate
to process the refund and money of refund amount will be credited back to same account through which
payment was made after receiving the same from the concerned Railways.
C. If all such passengers do not want to travel before chart preparation, online cancellation can be done
as at present. However, after chart preparation, online request can be sent to IRCTC through TDR refund
for seeking refund. IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Railways to process the refund and
money of refund amount will be credited back to same account through which payment was made after
receiving the same from the concerned Railways
Note-Certificate from the TTE (in original) for the AC not worked or Excess fare ticket (EFT) (in original)
issued by the TTE for wrongly charged or Certificate from the TTE (in original) for the less passenger
travelled may be submitted to the following address along with the application to claim for refund

Delay in submitting the Original Certificate from the TTE may result in delay in processing the case or
