This document discusses the medicinal plant Centella asiatica. It belongs to the Umbelliferae family and is commonly known as Indian Pennywort. It grows in moist places in India. The plant contains a substance called Vellarin and has properties similar to Brahmi. It is used as a tonic for the nervous system, skin, and brain and can improve memory. Centella asiatica is used to treat skin diseases like eczema, lupus, psoriasis, and elephantiasis. The powdered leaves or roots are administered internally or used externally as a poultice on ulcers.

of its flowers, which are called as Umbels.
These distinctive umbrella shaped blooms are
attractive in arrangements and loved by numerous
beneficial insects.

14. Its properties being similar to those of Bacopa
Monnieri (Brahmi).
Both plants are regarded as a tonic.
Useful in the skin diseases (eruptions and
syphilitic treatment) nervous system, blood and
brain cells.
Some parts of Indians are habituated in taking
the leaves with milk for improving their
memory and use as a body building tonic.
15. It contains substance called Vellarin having the
odour and bitter persistent taste of the fresh plant.
The root is given with milk in fever and dysentry.
16. The leaves are dried in shade so that no active
principle is lost, powdered and kept in a well
stoppered bottle.
Internally it has been used as an tonic and can be
administered in the powdered form in 5-10grains
doses, three times a day.

Gurgling with the boiled extract of leaves is
effective.

19. The Poultice or Cataplasm is applied in
syphillitic and other forms of ulcerations.
The powder is dusted over ulcers.

Dr Boileu experimented with the drug and
first used it in leprosy.

There is a profuse perspiration at times with pustules,
especially upon chest that are surrounded with scaly edges.

to warm himself enough even in summer.
There is severe sensation of burning in lesion
accompanied by intolerable itching which is
worse undressing, night, walking, warmth.
53. Itching on skin not relieved by scratching.
Ichthyosis with offensive odour of the skin.
Excessive perspiration.
< Forenoon, evening, sweat, cold air
> warmth of bed, hot application, exercise
54. It has been used with marked success in the
treatment of syphilis, elephantiasis, leprosy and
acute dysentery.
Thickening of skin.
56. Used in leprosy, when skin feels as if it were
hide bound Tense vesicles.
57. Eruption especially around eyes and ears.
Violent itching with tendency to formation of
thick crust.
The lesions may get infected and can form an
eczematous patch which is associated with acrid,
foul smelling, pustular discharge.
