Top News :
• Tata Power has informed that late last night (near midnight of 9th January), a loud thud was observed in Low Pressure Turbine accompanied
by fire on the turbine and generator deck of the 250 MW Unit 8 at Trombay. The plant was safely shutdown including safe purging of hydrogen
from the generator and safe shutdown of boiler, as the Unit was running with about 185 MW capacity.No casualty has occurred nor is any
human involved in the event associated with the key plant and equipment.
• Tata Steel Clarification : News item captioned "2-year contract to supply rail tracks to French rail operator". Tata Steel has clarified that "This
Press Report is based on a Press Release dated January 8, 2014 issued by Tata Steel Europe from United Kingdom and relates to an order placed
on them for supply of rails to a French Rail Operator. Company understand that the Press Release is mainly addressed to the related trade
segment and represents a very small contract as compared to the annual sales turnover in terms of value or volume.
• Vijaya Bank has consider conversion of existing 120 crore Perpetual Non Cumulative Preference Shares (PNCPS) of Rs. 10/- each into Equity
shares of the Bank and to decide on conduct of an Extra Ordinary General Meeting of the shareholders of the Bank to obtain the Shareholders
permission for the same.
• This EGoM was to finalise the basket for PSU ETF. This basket will comprise of 11 companies, all bluechip PSUs. Govt expect to raise around Rs
3,000 crore . The companies which would form part of the ETF basket are ONGC, Coal India, GAIL, Power Grid, REC, Oil India, Container
Corporation, Power Finance, Indian Oil, Engineers India and Bharat Engineering.
• HDFC Ltd plans to raise USD 300 million through external commercial borrowing (ECB) to fund its expansion . Asked whether the raising of
funds will happen this fiscal or the next one, It is not yet decided. HDFC is raising the money under the USD 1 billion ECB window for housing
finance companies that the Reserve Bank allowed for funding affordable housing projects.
• Bharat Petroleum Corp will shut a crude unit at its Mumbai refinery for about 15 days in April-May as it carries out a 40-day maintenance
work at its catalytic cracker unit .

• U.K. industrial production remained unchanged at a seasonally adjusted 0.0%, from 0.3% in the preceding month whose figure was revised
down from 0.4%. Analysts had expected U.K. industrial production to rise 0.4% last month.
• The December 2013 trade deficit for India came in at USD 10.14 billion versus USD 17.19 billion in the same month last year. The reduction
was driven by a 15.25 percent fall in imports, which came in at USD 36.49 percent while exports grew at 3.5 percent to USD 26.35 billion. Gold
and silver imports stood at USD 1.77 billion in December vs USD 5.6 billion a year earlier.

5. Management Tweets :
• JK Paper Mgt Guideline : The company had a new machine put up in August for further expansion. The month of October-December the
company did see some advantage from this, however the full advantage of volumetric increase will be seen in FY14-15.
• Gravita India Mgt Guideline : Company expects the company to grow to the tune of 25-30 percent in FY15. Mgt is optimism of improving
margins on the back of value-added products. Mgt says the metal company will focus on value added products like lead power and sheets in the
days to come.
• HCL Technologies Mgt Guideline : The IT spending outlook for 2014 is positive but immigration remains a concern for the industry, although
not so much for them. Mgt say 2014 continues to look good. The renewal market continues to be buoyant .
