THE PRINCIPLES I LIVE BY
1. MY 10 WORK PRINCIPLES:
1. Leadership: Every object stays in its state of rest or uniform constant motion unless
and otherwise acted upon by an external force. Leadership is that external force.
2. Vision: Your declared dream must be big. Your internal dream must be scary big.
3. Fortitude: The finest swords are forged in the red hot smelter, not cast in air
conditioned palaces. Don’t avoid the biggest challenges, seek them out.
4. Perseverance: If at first you don’t succeed, try something a little different the next
time. Perseverance, my friend, not foolishness.
5. Commitment: Don’t ask your people to do what you won’t do yourself.
6. Ego: Take your work extremely seriously, but don’t take yourself too seriously.
7. Teamwork: If you carry people with you a-while, they will carry you for much longer
when you most need it.
8. Learning: Every person can teach you both good and bad if you care to learn. Imbibe
the good, store the bad in your “this is what I must never be like” memory drive.
9. Trust: It’s like a Ming vase – takes years to build and seconds to break. When you
have it, it’s truly special. If it breaks, it’s rubbish on your hands.
10. Mind-set: Jump into new things. Don’t over-analyse – just ask yourself “is this likely
to be very interesting”. One day we all have to die, might as well live an interesting
life.
