Health advocates have long said that children should see pediatric dentists once every six months, starting at the age of 1.
That recommendation has become even firmer after recent studies have shown the negative effects on children’s health when dental care is not adequately provided, especially early on in life.
What we were taught decades ago about the importance of regular and early dental care is even more true today.

TOOTHACHE STATS
• A survey published in “Archives of
Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine
Journal” found that 7.5 million children
ages 6-12 experienced a toothache
within a six-month period.
• One in seven children reported having
a toothache — and these toothaches
were responsible for one third of
elementary school absences.
• Also, students who reported
toothaches were four times more
prone to receive bad grades, scoring a
2.8 grade point average or below.

THE TOOTHACHE CULPRIT
• Most toothaches are caused by tooth
decay, or cavities that spread deep
enough into the tooth to infect the
nerve system that lives inside the “root
canal”
• Increasing preventative care would
reduce the likelihood of dental cavities

would also be cost effective compared
to the cost of fillings or root
treatments.
• We know how important it is for
younger children to develop good
habits so they can help prevent tooth
decay that can lead to many social,

LET’S DEFEAT DECAY
We aim to help fulfill the
American Academy of Pediatrics’
guidelines that all children are
seen by a pediatric dentist by
age 1 followed by repeat visits
every 6 months.
We are certain the education and
preventive measures taken at
these early visits will help
prevent painful cavities and the
negative effects associated with
them.
