Editor's Notes
Key Message: Title Slide Instructor:Introduce Module
Timing: 1 min max. Key Message: Run through the agenda for the presentation.Instructor: Describe the course agenda.
Timing: 2 min Key Message:Configuring Email access is easy with simple in-built wizards, for SMTP, smarthost and POP3 connectorsInstructor: We are already aware that internal local mail worked straight out of the box once SBS was installed and the Internet Address Management Wizard is run. If you had not used the Internet Address management wizard to set up e-mail, you can perform this task on the Network>Connectivity tab using the Internet Mail wizard. If you are using the ISP’s service for inbound mail filtering that the MX record at the registrar has to point to the ISP’s mail server’s IP address and that the ISP will “forward” mail to the SBS Exchange Server. This is really the preferred method because it will prevent possible blacklisting if no reverse DNS is registered, as well if there is a Power outage or other failure that would take the SBS Exchange Server off-line, mail would accrue at the ISP’s server for a set amount of days and not be lost. Mail would be downloaded by the SBS once the SBS comes back online. Slide Transition Note: lets recap the IAMW
Timing: 1 min Key Message:The IAMW makes is simple to purchase, transfer and configure a public domain identity. Instructor:The IAMW configures:The inbound and outbound connectors that are necessary to route mail externally (Internal email works right out of the box)Configures required settings for the DNS server, and a Sender Policy Framework (SPF) record to help protect user e-mail addresses from forgery and misuse is configured as wellConfigures Outlook AnywhereConfigures MX recordConfigures the .txt record for autodiscover.comChanges the user proxies from .local to e.g. user@domain.com for external mailPort 25 forwarded to the SBS server if the router is manageable RWA You can use the IAMW to: Register for a new domain name from within Windows Small Business Server 2011 through one or more Domain Name Registrar partnersTransfer the management of an existing domain name from within Windows Small Business Server 2011 through one or more Domain Name Registrar partnersIntegrate an existing domain into the Windows Small Business Server 2011 environment and manage it manuallyThe Internet Address Management Wizard lists any domain name extension supported by the registrar; however you can purchase any domain name extension regardless of whether it is listed by the registrar. Slide Transition Note: SBS 2011 also supports POP 3 connections
Timing: 1 min Key Message:For businesses that want to keep their existing POP3 service at their ISP, you can use the SBS POP3 connector to retrieve POP3 mail and route into a specific Exchange Server mail inbox. Instructor:Use these two tabs to explain how to Add a POP3 mailbox, Route the POP3 mail to an Exchange Server inbox, (can be more than one POP3 mailbox going to one Exchange Server account)Set the retrieval schedule
Timing: 1 min Key Message:Exchange 2010 extends the capability of previous versions of Exchange with SBS Instructor : These slides are to be touched on briefly to highlight included technologies in SBS. Later modules will visit these technologies in depth as needed to manage the SBS. Exchange Server 2010 Features at a GlanceBuilt-in Protection Anti-spam Built-in defenses against spam and phishing e-mail as well as additional integrated filtering provide advanced protection.ComplianceControls for messages in transport or requiring retention, and flexible journaling help meet organizational, legal and regulatory compliance requirements.Business ContinuityNew data replication capabilities keep the system highly available while limiting the need and frequency for backup.Confidential MessagingNew encryption features for both internal and Internet-based messages help protect the confidentiality of messages in transit.Anywhere Access Web-based MessagingA rich Office Outlook-like experience from any Internet connected computer with a supported browser provides encrypted access to the inbox, powerful search, and the ability to view different types of attachments.Mobile MessagingExchange ActiveSync technology delivers an improved e-mail and calendaring experience on mobile devices, while offering enhanced device and security policy control.Collaboration and ProductivityEnhanced calendaring, out-of-office, resource booking, and meeting scheduling capabilities simplify collaboration and increase productivity.Operational Efficiency Performance and ScalabilityImproved storage efficiency can be achieved through the extended memory and larger cache of x64-based architecture even as mailbox sizes increase; more efficient routing ensures the best use of bandwidth.AdministrationNew graphical and command-line interfaces offer improved manageability and increased automation while integrated tools simplify maintenance.DeploymentCapabilities to automatically discover Outlook and mobile clients simplify deployment. ExtensibilityNew Web services-based application programming interface (API) and .NET integration via Exchange Management Shell tasks enable rapid development for custom and third-party applications.Slide Transition Note: Lets look at the new SharePoint Foundation 2010
Timing: 2 min Key Message:Mail client administration is connected to user management – providing one single management tool for al usersInstructor: As part of user properties, a mailbox is automatically created when a new user is created. During this time, and any time after you can also set the maximum mailbox size for each user independently.By default, all users can access OWA, Exchange Active Sync and MAPI connections. You can further configure these using the specific administration tools for each systemNote – you can purchase and install Exchange Server 2010 Enterprise CALs to access further features such as Unified Mailbox and Archiving.Slide Transition Note: lets looking at configuring internet email
Timing: 2 min Key Message:Troubleshooting in exchange is easy, here are some simple tasks you can do to determine mail issues Instructor Note: Here are some initial check you can do for email issuesIssue isolated to an individual? If it is an individual user, check client configuration and client mailbox for issues. (mailbox size exceeded)Issue with internal network connectivity? Verify internal connectivity using networking tools (ping)Issue isolated to Exchange Server role? Check the server roles (mailbox, hub) for issues. Use Mail Flow Troubleshooter and Queue ViewerInbound mail/outbound mail? Is inbound mail working but cannot send outbound, or vice versa, or is all non-communicative?Test to connect to the SMTP server on port 25. If it is working, check DNS, use nslookup to verify MX and A records.Check SMTP receive connector if inbound mail is an issueCheck SMTP send connector if outbound mail is an issueYou can also use the ExBPA and the Performance console to help isolate issue. Exchange BPA checks AD, registry, IIS metabase, perfmon, WMI, flat files and does simple protocol testing.Gathers over 120 settings and checks against 1000 rulesThe Performance console provides counters that can be used to monitor performance to check there are available physical resources and monitor the number of SMTP messages that are relayed. It can also verify Outlook client connectivity status and validate activation of an anti-spam agent. Slide Transition Note: lets jump a little deeper message tracking
Timing: 3 min Key Message:A message tracking log is a detailed log of all message activity as messages are transferred to and from a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 .Instructor: InMicrosoft Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you can use the Exchange Server Management Console to enable or disable message tracking, and to specify the location of the message tracking log files. Enable or disable message tracking – ex Management console tree, server config, hub transport, properties tabConfigure the message tracking logs locations - by default, the message tracking log files exist in C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft\\Exchange Server\\TransportRoles\\Logs\\MessageTrackingConfigure size - the maximum size for each message tracking log file is 10 MB. When a message tracking log file reaches its maximum size, Exchange Server 2010 opens a new message tracking log file. This process continues until:the message tracking log directory reaches its maximum set sizeThe tracking log file reaches its set maximum ageConfigure size of Message Tracking Log Directory – by default 250MB. But since the Hub and Mail server role are installed on SBS the log size is twice that amount. To change the size of the message tracking log directory you would have to run a command in the Exchange Server management shell (out of scope for this chapter). Use cmd “Set-TransportServer Exchange Server01 -MessageTrackingLogMaxDirectorySize 400MB” for instance to set to 400MBSet maximum age for message tracking logs – 30 days by defaultYou can also configure message subject logging where the subject line of an SMTP message is stored in the tracking log. First check with privacy and security compliance before enabling this feature.
Timing: 2 min Key Message:OWA enables users to access their mailbox from any common browser anywhere they have internet or intranet access.Instructor: Outlook Web Access(OWA) can be used from remote of from onsite at the office. (The Outlook client is no longer provided with the SBS suite; it was included in previous versions, but due to CAL changes in Exchange Server 2010 the Outlook client is no longer included).OWA is enabled by default during the setup of SBS.Slide Transition Note: lets looks at configuring OWA
Timing: 2 min Key Message:By default, OWA in installed and enabled. You have the ability to control and manage OWA to some degree and user access using in OWA web site propertiesInstructor: OWA properties can be found on the Shared Folders and Web Sites Tab > Web Sites. From here you can configure access rights for users, disable OWA all together and as needed use IIS for more in-depth management. For deeper OWA management and customization please refer to the vast amount of material on the Exchange TechNet site.Slide Transition Note: Here is some examples of the OWA experience
Timing: 1 min Key Message:OWA provides a similar experience to the full outlook client, and has many of the new features such as conversation threads.Instructor:With Office Outlook Web Access, you can use a Web browser to access your Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox from any computer with an Internet connection. You can use Outlook Web Access with Microsoft Internet Explorer.Outlook Web Access is an effective solution for people who require roaming, remote access, or cross-platform functionality.
Timing: 3 min Key Message:SharePoint Foundation 2010 provides the solution platform for SharePoint Products and Technologies, delivering a wide range of functional capabilities that are exploited and extended by other SharePoint Products and TechnologiesInstructor:SharePoint provides from business perspective: Document collaborationWikis and blogsRSS supportDiscussion boardsProject task managementContacts, calendars, and tasksE-mail integrationIntegration with the 2010 Office system client applicationsOffline support for SharePoint lists and document libraries, by using Office Outlook® 2010SharePoint Foundation 2010 employs operating system and database services to support requirements ranging from a team site for a workgroup, to large enterprise portal solutions serving hundreds of thousands of employees and staff, to a corporate Internet portal supporting millions of users.Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2010 builds on top of SharePoint Foundation 2010 to provide a comprehensive solution with enterprise-scale capabilities to meet critical needs such as managing content and business processes, and simplifying how people find and share information across boundaries.SharePoint Foundation 2010 provides the following security-enhanced, scalable, reliable, high-performance capabilities for site management:Storage Allowing content such as documents (Office documents, PDFs, custom binary files), Web pages, lists, and other types of information to reside in a common data repository (Microsoft SQL Server™) with full data management capabilities, version control, metadata, and site-level search.Security Providing the essential elements of comprehensive security management by employing a range of authentication providers (for example, Kerberos, NTLM, basic, the Active Directory® directory service, LDAP, ASP.NET forms and Web single sign-on authentication), policy management, group management, and permission levels ranging from individual items in list to entire sites.Management Enabling centralized and delegated administrative facilities for SharePoint Foundation sites from operational and application perspectives, in addition to ongoing site monitoring.Site Model Providing a template-based infrastructure for deployment of custom sites, providing automated navigation and a consistent user interface – while allowing for extensive and flexible customization of site formatting and layout.Extensibility Providing a comprehensive application programming interface (API) that allows custom applications to be built on the SharePoint Foundation architecture, employing use of XML Web services and SOAP, providing event handlers for cross-integration with other applications, and providing methods for migrating content into SharePoint Foundation sites.SharePoint Foundation as a part of Microsoft SharePoint family, offering collaboration and document management functionality by means of web portals, by providing a centralized repository for shared documents, as well as browser-based management and administration of them. It allows creation of Document libraries, which are collections of files that can be shared for collaborative editing. SharePoint provides access control and revision control for documents in a library. It also includes a collection of web parts, which are web widgets that can be embedded into web pages to provide a certain functionality. SharePoint includes web parts such as workspaces and dashboards, navigation tools, lists, alerts (including e-mail alerts), shared calendar, contact lists and discussion boards. It can be configured to return separate content for Intranet, Extranet and Internet locations. It uses a similar permissions model to Microsoft Windows, via groups of users. Active Directory groups can be added to SharePoint groups to easily tie in permissions. Alternatively, other authentication providers can be added through HTML Forms authenticationSlide Transition Note: Lets looks more at SharePoint
Timing: 2 min Key Message:SharePoint provides integrated collaboration which is quickly and easily to setup and configureInstructor: Lecture from slideSlide Transition Note: More about SharePoint
Timing: 2 min Key Message:SharePoint allows teams and individuals to create sites simply, store secured files and provide a platform for web based services.Instructor: Lecture from SlideSlide Transition Note: How does SBS 2011 Standard implement SharePoint
Timing: 2 min Key Message:Out of the box, SBS 2011 deploys SharePoint 2010 Foundation as the intranet Companyweb.Instructor: As the full version of SharePoint Foundation, you have the full ability to configure and customize as required. Administration will be explained more in the next slide, however deeper admin can also be via the SharePoint Foundation Central Administration. This allows you to configure deeper customization such as database support, permissions, site collection backup, etc. One question we get asked a lot, is can Office Web Apps be used on SBS 2011 Standard? Office Web Apps is a web-based version of Microsoft Office. It includes the web-based versions of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft OneNote. The web apps allow users to access, and do light editing of their documents directly from anywhere within a web browser as well as share files and collaborate with other users online. Office Web Apps can be deployed on SharePoint Foundation, and used for customers which have Office 2010 under open (VL) license. However, Office Web Apps is not supported on a domain controller due to security configurations, and as such is not a supported install on SBS 2011 Standard Server. However, SharePoint Foundation 2010 can be deployed on the SBS 2011 Premium Add-on, or other Windows Server member server, and Office Web Apps deployed on this server. There is further information on how to more the SharePoint roles to a second server and integrated them seamlessly into your environment on the SBS TechNet site.Slide Transition Note: Lets look into SBS 2011 SharePoint configuration
Timing: 3 min Key Message:Within the SBS 2011 Console you can administer general properties and user permissions for SharePointInstructor: Via the console, administrators have access to general SharePoint settings. Primarily user site access (whether they have access or not), and initial site settings (the top level name of the SharePoint site and if it is actually enabled). Further configuration is done via the SharePoint Central Administration which is outside the scope of this module. One thing to note is that you can also use member serves to host SharePoint services, and transfer the roles to those servers. Further information for this can be found as the SBS TechNet Site.
Key Message: Elicit questions from the audience.Instructor:Timing: As long as necessary.
