Consumerism
1. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Sorsogon Provincial Office conducted a
seminar entitled, CONSUMERISM TODAY: Seminar for the Now Generation Consumers held
last May 4, 2017 at Casa Dominga Restaurant
Balogo, Sorsogon City.
The participants of the event were
students from different schools, teachers,
businessman, and government officials. Due to
power interruption, the seminar did not start
on time. Despite of this, the host did their best
to make us comfortable and offered us drinks while waiting.
Without wasting time, the seminar formally started with a prayer followed by the
singing of the Philippine National Anthem. The seminar is all about E-commerce act and
online banking tackled by two respected speakers from regional office.
Republic Act 8792 was signed into law
last June 14, 2000. It is landmark legislation
in the history of the Philippines. It gives legal
recognition of electronic form. Makes banking
transactions done through ATM switching
networks absolute once consummated. It
provides the mandate for the electronic
implementation of transport documents to facilitate carriage of goods.
The speaker stressed the hacking or cracking of account in social media. There were
several hacking/cracking incidents in the Philippines as shown in the videos. He said that it
is punishable by law, a fine from 100 thousand
to maximum commensuration to the damage
with imprisonment from 6 months to 3 years.
The business community and Internet users
must contribute and work with government to
take action on this.
The second topic was discussed by BSP
Regional office representative, it was about Online Banking. She encouraged us to have a
bank account and save money for the future. She tackled all about fraud and scams in
internet.
