We are back at 8:00 – make sure to get some sleep, you’ll need it!
2:00 – 8:00 we ar in the sport center :: spend your time wisely
This is the main entrance this weekend. If people come in we only open this door
This Is were we are now
This is our area this weekend.
In emerncies do not call 112 but 0402472222
So now the pleasantries are over: let’s talk public play
Public play keeps the doctor away: this game jam is about prevention!
So: two words: one word is play
What is play?
Play = Free
Play = voluntary
Play = hands-on! FUN
Play Is not about rigid / unchangeable rules
Play Is not about winning only
Play is
Play is SOCIAL
Back to public play
To the public of public play
This is a public area
This is a public area too.. And while other media have found their way to this places… games are lacking behind
Think about what you can do with parkinglots
You can start Guerilla ggardingin
Or UrbanKnitting projects….
You can do other things in other places.. Think swimming pools :D you’ve already seen some example of digital play in the pool.What’s important to note: the context declares the forms of play that resonates with the environment
Take a look at these parcs
The left is more open to taichie practices
Whilst the other is more explorative and may resonate with geo cashing.
Thinks about squares where people gather for a social drink
You could build huge pilons to walk the streets with here.. You’ll sure get a lot of attention
You can also utilize the power of cell-phones and location based gaming: for example the BotFighters game (2006)
Or you can make a social – secret game, hiding amongst participants and play a game without others knowing. Vampires in the city is a great example.
A social and public environment is not always outside
Public places are found inside as well: the pub for example
And where people drink… they smoke… can you make a healthy smokers game?!
School enirionemnts are public as well
Can you enliven the schoolyard?
Some places already are strong motviators to initiate play: commerce and shopping molls for example.
The stripes on the groudn make for a perfect place to do a linedangcing flash mob
More open area’s give room for huge pillow fights
In short…. There is a lot to do
This is your goal: Enrich public places with play and make people super healthier(prevent illness by increasing strength, stamina and intellect in a playful manner)
So let’s start to play
An play together
An present players the building blocks they need to socially interact in a healthy way!
