3. Story – Disciples Follow Jesus One day, John the Baptist was talking with two of his friends. Suddenly, John stopped. He pointed at Jesus, who was walking by. “Look,” he said, “the Lamb of God!” John was saying that Jesus was the special person God had sent to take the punishment for the wrong things people do. Johns friends wanted to know more about Jesus! So they walked quickly after Him. “Where are You staying?” they asked Jesus. Jesus invited them to come along with Him and see.
4. Disciples Follow Jesus One of John’s friends, named Andrew, grew more and more excited as he listened to Jesus! He decided, I must go and tell my brother about Jesus! Andrew hurried to find his brother, Peter. He told Peter, “ We have found the special person God has sent!” Peter hurried back with Andrew to meet Jesus.
5. Disciples Follow Jesus The next day, Jesus asked a man named Philip to come along with Him, too. As Philip listened to Jesus, he could hardly W AIT to tell his friend Nathanael! Philip looked for Nathanael and found him under a fig tree. Philip called, “We have found the promised one, Jesus! Come and see!
6. Disciples Follow Jesus Nathanael was surprised, but he went with Philip. As Nathanael walked up, Jesus said, “Here is a truthful man! I saw you sitting under the fig tree!” Jesus knew where Nathaneal had been! Now Natanael realized that Jesus truly was the special person God had sent.
7. Disciples Follow Jesus Later, Jesus was walking along the edge of the Sea of Galilee, watching fishermen throw their big fishing nets out into the water and pull them in again,. Jesus saw Peter and Andrew there and called them in again. Jesus saw Peter and Andrew there and called to them. The looked up, pulled in their nets and hurried to see what Jesus wanted. Jesus invited them to follow Him. Jesus said they would help Him tell people about God and bring people into God’s family instead of bringing in fish! Peter and Andrew were glad to leave their boat and go with Jesus right away.
8. Disciples Follow Jesus As Jesus, Peter and Andrew walked along, they saw two other fishermen in a boat, helping their father prepare the fishing nets. Jesus called to then, too. He invited then to follow Him. And so James and John put down their nets and went with Jesus, too.
9. Disciples Follow Jesus On another day, Jesus saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector’s table. “Come with me, Matthew,” said Jesus. Matthew looked up at Jesus, got right up and left his money box and all his work! Now Jesus had fishermen and a tax collector to help Him.
10. Disciples Follow Jesus Jesus invited more people to be His helpers until He had 12 friends to help Him. Each one was different, but they were all the same in one way: they loved Jesus and wanted to learn from Him. Jesus told His friends many wonderful things about God and about Himself. Then Jesus sent His helpers to cities and towns all around to tell other people what Jesus had taught them.
11. What kinds of people decided to follow Jesus? What do you think Jesus’ disciples learned about Jesus? Jesus wanted all kinds of people to know Him and learn from Him. Then they could help all kinds of other people know Jesus! Even today, God chooses all kinds of people to learn from Him. God wants us all to be part of His family because He loves us.

16. Art Center—Fishers of Men Mobile Create a fish shape from your paper. Decorate your fish. Attach a piece of yarn so we can hang our fish. God chooses all kinds of people to learn from Him. Some of the first people to follow Jesus were fishermen. Today we are going to make fish mobiles to remind us about the kinds of people Jesus chose to learn about God.
