“If I had to write a statement about my life right now,
what would I like to say about it”?

5. I have been asking my self these questions long time
ago!
“Why am I here and what do I want to leave”?

6. When People look at me, they often say “you are a
blessed, you are lucked….”

7. Even Though….

8. I could not say the same!

9. There was a time when I woke up every morning to the
roosters crowing, sweating, with my eyes half asleep…

10. I tried to reach a peace of a school uniform that was
hanging in a piece of stick behind me.

11. I woke up, took a can with water, stood up in a door
jamb washing my face.

12. I could hear somebody talking so far… they couldn’t
sleep…it was dark… and hot…
•

13. …cockroach jumping up down even touching my neck. I
could feel it…

14. rolling down to my chest. I couldn’t move. I was
paralysed…

15. I took my hand down to my belly slowly… I grabbed it
and tossed it down to the floor.

16. It was about 5.30 in the morning. The time I used to
leave home.

17. Walking 15 km for a school among nowhere, well, just
cows, lambs, goat, mouse, and whatsoever you could
imagine.

Starving, I had to be at school at 8 o’clock Am.

19. After 1pm I had to do the same way back home in a hot
sunning, wearing an old flip flop that couldn’t protect
my feet from hot loosing gravel. Exhaust, weak…

20. I remember most of time I would rather go
barefoot.

21. …Jogging on my tip toes, trying to find out shadow tree
somewhere to cold down my feet.

22. Not because I would! Because I had to save that rest of
flip flop left on my feet. Like these

23. Most of the time when I arrived thinking that at least I
am going to eat something…

… I found nothing. Instead I found a dirty plastic
bucket, hoe and shovel. Ready to go to work..

25. hungry, with weakness on my face, and my stomach
singing until it dropped…

26. I had to picked up my stuff and go to the beach helping
my mum strip sand off the beaches to sell and put food
on the table.

28. It was hard. life hit me hard on my face. And told me
“come on with you”! what are you going to do with
me”?

Life put me in a situation which I had two choice:
•

30. Sinking or Swimming.

31. I would rather swimming. Even though, I couldn’t swim
at all!
But… I had to learn.

32. I swung with no direction, lost on my thought.
Owner of my own destiny.

33. I was sick and tired and hungry… I promise to
myself that I couldn’t handle it any more.

34. I knew that I will find the way somewhere.

35. And I have done!
Everything that you could imagine to pursue my
dream!
Working 40 hours a week and at the same time
studying at university

36. Week in and week out eating pasta and sweet corn
(the only one that I could afford)

•Earning 500 euros per month and paying 200 euros of
university fee (apart from other expenses)
•

38. I did not died. Because the worst in my life was already
over!

39. I studied and still do:

•To change the circle of mindset that “nobody going to
look at you if you are not a good housekeeper”.

•“You cannot find a job because you are black and
poor”.

•“You cannot find a job because they don’t know you”.

• “You will never ever got a job because You cannot
speak English like them”

Every time that I have seen my mum went to the beach
to steal sand to put food on the table…

of a kind of life that I wanted to live.
