Susan Tellem and Marshall Thompson are two respectable names when it comes to
turtle rescue. They started their journey in the year 1990 and have been rescuing turtles
since then. To date, they have rescued and re homed more than 4000 turtles.
 With the increasing human interference into the ecological balance, the turtles and
tortoises are slowly decreasing in numbers. Susan and Marshall are helping where
they can to encourage people to not remove these animals from the wild.
 When they launched American Tortoise Rescue in 1990, there were no other
national programs. Joining their efforts, there are many tortoise and turtle rescues
now in the U.S. and around the world.
 The duo also launched World Turtle Day® celebrated every May 23rd in the year
2000.
 Marshall and Susan have been working tirelessly in the fields of education, social
media, media outreach and more to celebrate the existence of these very beautiful
creatures.
 They are also working hard to ban the live food markets around the world, which
sell turtles and tortoises for food.
 They have a special sanctuary in Malibu, California, for deformed and unadoptable
turtles and also turtles with special needs.
