CINAHL Database search on Domestic Violence and battered women
1. CINAHL Database search using Domestic Violence as key search term
Limiting topic using “AND” in CINAHL adding “battered women”
2. Obtaining article not in full text
When faced with an article that is not available with full-text and with the GET
ARTICLE link, simply press the “get article” link and then a page from Monmouth University
journal locator will then appear. Click on the “interlibrary loan form” and then fill in the form for
the article to be requested from the library.
Initial Search
Using the electronic research techniques, I searched on CINAHL to find the article I
wanted to research about. This database met all the criteria for my chosen topic and has all the
reliable information I needed.
Additional Search
I used the key words “domestic violence” to specify what I was searching for, adding
term operators, “And”, “Not” and “Or” to make the search more specific as it specified my
search. The number of articles became limited with addition of terms “And, “Not” and “Or”, the
searched articles decreased significantly.
I know this activity will be of tremendous help for me in preparing a brochure on my
chosen topic because of the ease and reliability of the information and data on hand.
4. The websites Google and Yahoo are two search engines I used which provided variety of
sources as well as list of references, author and contact information. The domain is present, goals
and objectives of the site are well-defined and there is up to date information on publication
dates. I am satisfied with the information I get from them. I will use the information or data from
these sites in my other projects citing it as having credible and reliable data.
