Two sisters, Maria and Isolina, migrated from their poverty-stricken home in rural Spain to Argentina in the early 1900s to work and send money back to their family. Maria fell in love with a man from her village named Jose who also immigrated to Argentina. After 10 years of working as maids, Jose was able to find work in a factory and marry Maria. They had a son named Robert and lived in Buenos Aires, a stark contrast to their small village in Spain.
