A. Course description
This course discusses the concept of poetry, kinds and elements of poetry, approaches in
analyzing poetry, reading and appreciating poetry; and composing poetry, recitation and teaching
poetry.
B. Objectives
The objectives of this course are:
Cognitive aspects:
1. Students are able to understand the definition, and kinds of poem,
2. Students are able to understand the elements of poem,
3. Students are able to understand the approaches or literary criticism that is used in analyzing poems,
Psychomotor aspects:
1. Students are able to explain the definition, and kinds of poem,
2. 2. Students are able to explain the elements of poem,
3. Students are able to analyze poem by using approaches or literary criticism.
4. Students are able to compose poem.
Attitude aspects:
1. Students are able to recite poems properly
2. Students are able to get the values or other cultural aspects after analyzing poem
3. Students are able to teach poetry not only in university levels but also in senior and junior level.
C. Learning indicators
In poetry class, students must shows motivation and participation in the classroom. Thus,
students must fulfill the following indicators
1. Read all topics in the syllabus based on the meeting
2. Write Intellectual Diary/resume individually based on the topic
3. Discusses the ID/resume in the classroom
4. Compose poem
5. Compose an essay about poetry analysis
6. Recite poem in the Poetry Out Loud

F. Assignment
In order to build students’ motivation to read the topics in the subject and to increase
their participation in the classroom, they are required to compose an ID or resume based on the
topic on the syllabus. Furthermore, some ID/resumes will be choose based on its
comprehensiveness and completeness and will be explain by the students in front of the class.
G. Assessment
Students’ learning is assessed through students’ assignments, portfolio of students resume
or Intellectual Diary (ID), class participation and attendance, composing poem and recitation, and
mid-term and semester tests.
By the end of the course, students are able to compose poem, to recite, and to produce an
essay of about 500 words long on poem analysis.
4. The final mark of the course will be based on the following aspects:
1. Attendance : at least 80% of the whole meetings
2. Classroom participation : 10 %
3. Individual/Group assignment : 20 %
4. Midterm test : 30 %
5. Final examination : 40 %
