1. Whilst is seems obvious that the distributor would want themselves as their first customer so that they get
any sign up commission, any residual commission & of course have 1 customer counting towards any
promotions or bonuses, is this really the best course of action? I would say it's not & I'm going to explain
why;
MLM is all about duplication, you are introduced to the business by your sponsor who then teaches you how
to recruit other distributors & gather customers. Your sponsor was introduced to the business by their
sponsor & taught exactly the same as they are now teaching you. You will now go out & do exactly the
same as your sponsor & their sponsor & so on.
However sometimes your sponsor may not have done what is best for themselves or their sponsor. If their
sponsor allowed them to sign themselves up as their own first customer & allowed you to sign yourself up as
your first customer, then I will show you why this is not the best course of action.
In all MLM companies you will be initially encouraged to introduce a certain number of other distributors as
soon as possible, normally 3 or 5. So let’s say it's 3 & after some training by your company & with help
from yourself, your new distributor gathers 3 distributors for their team in their first month. Bearing in mind
that MLM is about duplication what will these distributors do if your new distributor signed them-self up as
their own first customer? They will do exactly the same, so after 1 month your new distributor will have 1
customer & 3 distributors who will have 1 customer each (we are forgetting for the moment that you will
sign other customers).
Now if you had signed your new distributor as your customer & they duplicated that they would now have 3
distributors & 3 customers instead of just 3 distributors, meaning that they would have qualified their
"position" ( some companies may require 5 customers for this ).
The reason why this is so important is that sometimes a person will sign up as a distributor then sign
themselves up as a customer & then do nothing! Unfortunately this happens quite a lot in MLM leaving you
with unqualified distributors sat with 1 customer.
So I hope you now understand why it's so important that when you sign up a new distributor you also sign
them up as your customer too.
N.B. You should substitute the word "distributor" with "rep" or "associate" or whatever term is used in your
particular MLM Company.
