2. Four types of men in the Scripture:
1. Outward men - inner man
2. Old Man - New Man
3. Natural man - Spiritual man.
4. Spiritual Man - Fleshy man.

3. What is it the inner man
in the Christian life?

14. Psalm 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the
LORD; and in his law does he …
Psalm 19:8-10 The statutes of the LORD are right,
rejoicing the heart…
Psalm 40:8 I delight to do your will, O my God:
yes, your law is within my heart.
Psalm 119:16,24,35,47,48,72,92 I will delight myself
in your statutes: I will not forget your word…
How do we delight our life?
LASC
15. Psalm 119 is full of praise for the
law of God. Here is a brief
sample:
“Oh, how I love your law!” (v.
97a).
“Your statutes are wonderful . . .”
(v. 127a).
“If your law had not been my
delight, I would have perished in
my affliction” (v. 92).
How sweet are Your words to my taste,
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!.
(Psalm 119:103)

18. That is, for Christians:
There is something about us that is
getting old, decaying and
deteriorating; but there is also
something about us that is getting
more vital, increasing and becoming
richer and deeper and stronger
every day we live. And that is what
he calls the inner being.

19. We faint not—notwithstanding our sufferings. Resuming
2Co 4:1.
Outward man—the body, the flesh.
Perish—"is wearing away"; "is wasted away" by afflictions.
Inward man—our spiritual and true being, the "life" which
even in our mortal bodies (2Co 4:11) "manifests the life of
Jesus."
Is renewed—"is being renewed," namely, with fresh "grace"
(2Co 4:15), and "faith" (2Co 4:13), and hope (2Co 4:17, 18).

24. Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast
spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10).
But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and
not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31).
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is
that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans
12:2)
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind. ( Ephesians 4:23)
And have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge
according to the image of Him who created him. (Colossians
3:10)
What do we have to renew day by day?

25. Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have
received mercy, we do not lose heart. (2
Corinthians 4:1).
I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I
would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of
the living. (Psalm 27:13).
My soul faints for Your salvation, But I hope in Your
word. (Psalm 119:81)
He gives power to the weak, And to those who
have no might He increases strength.( Isaiah 40;29)
He give to us day by day:

28. St. Paul emphasises this
prayer very strikingly by
asking that the gift may be
“according to the riches of His
glory,” unlimited as the
illimitable glory of the Divine
Nature itself.
29. Paul asks for spiritual
blessings:
Which are the best blessings.
Strength from the Spirit of
God in the inner man who is
feeble (a terminology which
the Greek understood and
used in their daily life). LASC
30. And you can see
now why Paul says
that he prays that
we would be
strengthened by the
Holy Spirit in the
inner man!
We would need all
of the strength that
the Spirit provides. LASC
31. Believers in Christ need
Fresh supplies of strength to enable
them to exercise grace, to perform
duties, to resist Satan and his
temptations, to oppose their
corruptions, and to bear the cross,
and undergo afflictions cheerfully,
and to hold on and out to the end:
this is a blessing that comes from
God.
32. We need strength
in the soul; the
strength of faith, to
serve God, and to do
our duty.
33.
34. We need God’s help in times of trial (James 1:2-8).
We need His power to open doors and make us bold
(Col. 4:2-4).
We need His power to deliver us from circumstances
which are beyond our strength to endure
(2 Cor. 1:8-11).
If we are going to grow in faith and be useful for
God’s purpose we need to pray, “God, help us!” We
cannot do it without Him.
We Need God’s Power.
