Teacher Marcela Rodríguez.
5th C
High School Number 4.
2. Gareth (Frank) Bale
was born in Cardiff
on July 16th 1989.
His dad’s name is
Frank (school
caretaker) and his
mom’s name is
Debbie (operations
manager). He went
to Eglwys Newydd
Primary School at
Whitchurch.
3. Bale went to Whitchurch High School in Cardiff. He continued
with good performances in sports, not only in football but in
rugby and hockey too. At age of 14 Gareth could run 100 meter
sprint in 11.4 seconds. Because of his amazing football skills,
the school’s PE teacher, Gwyn Morris, had special rules for
Gareth, and that was to play one-touch football and not use his
preferred left foot.
4. Bale began his professional
career at Southampton on 17
April 2006, at the age of 16
years and 275 days, Bale
became the second youngest
player ever to play for
Southampton (after Theo
Walcott, who was 132 days
younger) when he made his
debut in the Saints' 2–0 victory
against Millwall. On 6 August,
Bale scored his first league
goal, a free kick, to level the
score at 1–1 against Derby
County.
5. Bale made his senior
international debut
for Wales in May
2006, becoming the
youngest player at
that point to
represent the nation.
He has since earned
over 50 caps and
scored 18
international goals,
making him
Wales' sixth highest
scorer of all time.
6. October 2009 — Plagued by injuries and having the dubious
honour of playing in a record 24 straight matches without a
win, 20-year-old Gareth Bale, who was thought to be cursed,
is labelled a flop and subjected to a paltry £3 million offer
from Birminghamjust two years after Tottenham bought him
from Southampton for what ended up being a £7 million fee.
7. For the 2012–13 season, Bale changed
his squad number from 3 to number
11 as he was "not a left-back
anymore" and had asked the club for
a "higher number"
8. On 28 April 2013, Bale won both the PFA Players' Player of the Year and Young
Player of the Year after his excellent showing in the 2012–13 season. A week
later, on 2 May 2013, he added the FWA (Football Writer's Association) Player
of the Year Award, making Bale one of only two players who have won all three
in the same season, the other being Cristiano Ronaldo, who won them in 2007.
At the end of a 2012/13 season in which he scored 26 goals across all
competitions, Bale has been the subject of on and off interest from Real Madrid
for months. Doubts are raised as to whether he's worth the £50 million fee the
Spanish club were supposedly willing to pay for him.
9. On 1 September 2013, Spanish side Real Madrid announced that
they had reached an agreement for the transfer of Bale, signing a
six-year deal for an undisclosed fee. The Spanish press (and Real
Madrid TV) reported that Bale had cost £77 million (€91 million),
while the British press reported a world record transfer feeof
£85.3 million (€100 million), which would be above Cristiano
Ronaldo's transfer record fee of £80 million (€94 million). Bale was
assigned the number 11 shirt at Madrid.
10. April 2014 — Cementing
himself as one of Real
Madrid's most dangerous
players after getting his
injury troubles under
control back, Bale scores a
season defining goal with
an incredible burst of speed
in the closing minutes of the
Copa Del Rey final against
Barcelona. His goal wins the
match and Real Madrid's
first trophy in nearly two
seasons.
11. May 2014 — Bale misses several excellent chances throughout regular time
of the Champions League final against Atletico Madrid, eliciting jokes
(ahem) and mockery (double ahem). An injury-time equalizer from Sergio
Ramos sends it to extra time and Bale scores the winner in the 110th
minute of a match that would end 4-1 in Real Madrid's favour. Bale's goal
in his first Champions League final wins the club's long promised 10th
European Cup, “La Décima.” He finishes the season with 22 goals and 16
assists in 44 appearances across all competitions.
