Substantial pain from an impairment can constitute a disability under the law. A single "mother scarf" rule can be formulated by synthesizing the rules from various cases dealing with impairment and substantial pain. The analysis section of the IRAC paragraph should then include illustrations of cases that apply the synthesized rule.
