The document summarizes events from Acts chapters 7 and 8. It describes Stephen being stoned to death for preaching about Jesus, with Saul approving of his death. This led to a great persecution against the early church in Jerusalem. However, those who were scattered from the persecution went out preaching the word. Specifically, Philip traveled to Samaria and proclaimed Christ, performing signs and miracles like exorcisms. As a result, there was great rejoicing in that city.
3. ACTS 7:54-58 NASB
Now when they heard this, they were cut to the quick, and they
began gnashing their teeth at him. But being full of the Holy Spirit, he
gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus
standing at the right hand of God; and he said, "Behold, I see the
heavens opened up and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of
God.” But they cried out with a loud voice, and covered their ears and
rushed at him with one impulse. When they had driven him out of the
city, they began stoning him; and the witnesses laid aside their robes
at the feet of a young man named Saul.

5. ACTS 8:1-3 NASB
Saul was in hearty agreement with putting him to death. And on
that day a great persecution began against the church in
Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of
Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. Some devout men
buried Stephen, and made loud lamentation over him. But Saul
began ravaging the church, entering house after house, and
dragging off men and women, he would put them in prison.
6. ACTS 8:4-8 NASB
Therefore, those who had been scattered went about preaching
the word. Philip went down to the city of Samaria and began
proclaiming Christ to them. The crowds with one accord were
giving attention to what was said by Philip, as they heard and
saw the signs which he was performing. For in the case of many
who had unclean spirits, they were coming out of them shouting
with a loud voice; and many who had been paralyzed and lame
were healed. So there was much rejoicing in that city.

Teaser: Can the Gospel really change people, not just their behavior but really change people at the most foundational level?
Quotes
“Everything is going to be OK, Jesus is on the throne, right where He belongs and where we need Him to be!”
Empowering us to Go is the Spirits agenda!
Purpose: The first of our 6P’s in the How of building the Kingdom is Purpose. The reason we are filled with the Holy Spirit is for purpose. The Spirit in Genesis brought order to creation and He is still the one that recreates creation back into being the Kingdom. Stephen understood this purpose because He knew Jesus was on the throne.
Remember Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father. What an awesome thing to see just before you die. Jesus standing in His glory to receive you into heaven. The Son of Man, Jesus as a human, in heaven! All is well with creation. No matter what happens our Jesus is on the throne, He is where He belongs and where we need Him to be! Our 2nd P is People, God wants people to come into His Kingdom. This happens through discipleship. Salvation gets a person into the Kingdom but discipleship gets the Kingdom to be etsablished in the person so that it can be spread through the person to the world.
This is what we see in the life of Saul the power of the gospel to totally transform a person. We believe in the power of the gospel. There is nothing that it cannot change. It fundamentally remakes us and restores us into His image.
The transformation power of the gospel had to be spread, it couldn’t do its work if it only remained in Jerusalem. It had to go. Empowering us to Go is the Spirits agenda! He wants you to live life on the go!
The Gospel brings rejoicing to the city. God’s heart is for the city, He wants it to rejoice. Winning a trophy can cause a city to rejoice but it is of short effect. The Gospel should bring lasting rejoicing to our city. How can it do this? By making disciples.
Simon the Magi: Miracles alone aren’t enough, we need to teach people the word. Act 8:9-20 Now there was a man named Simon, who formerly was practicing magic in the city and astonishing the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great; and they all, from smallest to greatest, were giving attention to him, saying, "This man is what is called the Great Power of God.” And they were giving him attention because he had for a long time astonished them with his magic arts. But when they believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike. Even Simon himself believed; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip, and as he observed signs and great miracles taking place, he was constantly amazed. Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For He had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit. Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was bestowed through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, saying, "Give this authority to me as well, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! "You have no part or portion in this matter, for your heart is not right before God.
In summary, Simon Magus was a priest to the Samaritans about the time of Yahshua’s death. He was born in the city of Gilta, received his education in Alexandria in magic and sorcery. He received much money and honor from all the people in Samaria. He later incorporated many of the ideas and principles of Christianity into his Babylonian style of religious teachings.
This he took with him when he moved to Rome. Thereupon seeing his powers, the people worshipped him. He became so well known, that the Roman Senate voted to and erected a statue to him as if he were a god.
Here he taught that “He” was the supreme power and that there was a corresponding feminine power. He proclaimed salvation to all who would believe on him. He did this by taking the NAME of “Yahshua” and “Christianity” and applying them to this new religion. His intention was to create ONE universal church. We see that Simon had a great following which spread around the known world. He had a priesthood that helped him do this.
It is not clear how he died but one can be reasonably sure that he was buried in Rome on Vatican Hill.
He incorporated the worship of idols and images with Christianity, all of which has stayed with the one Universal church in Rome even today. http://www.nazareneisrael.org/articles/additional-studies/simon-magus-the-first-pope/
Act 8:26-39 But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying, "Get up and go south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza." (This is a desert road.) So he got up and went; and there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he had come to Jerusalem to worship, and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah. Then the Spirit said to Philip, "Go up and join this chariot.” Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?” And he said, "Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?" And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: "HE WAS LED AS A SHEEP TO SLAUGHTER; AND AS A LAMB BEFORE ITS SHEARER IS SILENT, SO HE DOES NOT OPEN HIS MOUTH. "IN HUMILIATION HIS JUDGMENT WAS TAKEN AWAY; WHO WILL RELATE HIS GENERATION? FOR HIS LIFE IS REMOVED FROM THE EARTH.” The eunuch answered Philip and said, "Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else?” Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him. As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch *said, "Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?” [And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."] And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing.
Deu 23:1 "No one who is emasculated or has his male organ cut off shall enter the assembly of the LORD.
Isa 56:3 Let not the foreigner who has joined himself to the LORD say, "The LORD will surely separate me from His people." Nor let the eunuch say, "Behold, I am a dry tree."
Isa 56:4 For thus says the LORD, "To the eunuchs who keep My sabbaths, And choose what pleases Me, And hold fast My covenant,
Isa 56:5 To them I will give in My house and within My walls a memorial, And a name better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name which will not be cut off.
