Odonates <ul><li>Odonates are aquatic insects & have been around for more than 250 million years. </li></ul><ul><li>There are more than 500 known species in India. </li></ul><ul><li>As they feed on Gnats, Midges, mosquito larvae & other pests they can be used to control dengue, malaria and protect the crops. </li></ul><ul><li>They can be observed during monsoons </li></ul><ul><li>(May-November) near fresh water ponds & rivers. </li></ul><ul><li>Mid-day is the best time to watch them. </li></ul><ul><li>When photographing them wear dull clothes. </li></ul><ul><li>They are a very good indicator of the health of a wetland. </li></ul><ul><li>They require more detailed study. </li></ul>
