- Slides are meant to assist a speaker, not be the focal point of a presentation. Therefore, it is best to keep your slides as simple as possible and let the speaker do the presentation, rather than the powerpoint.
- too much text creates an unwanted cluttering of your slide, and also makes the slide harder to comprehend. too much text will also allow the audience to focus more on the text, and not on the presenter giving the presentation, which is not what you want.
- Animations and transitions can become too much of a bore to audience members when used repeatedly. Keep it simple and professional by using simple animations.
- Avoid stretching low quality images to fit your slide, this causes an unpleasant visual distortion. Using Clipart will undermine the professionalism of the presenter, avoid using clip art.
- Utilize a consistent visual theme for your presentation, but avoid using powerpoint templates. Most have been seen by your audience many times, and are boring for an audience accustomed to them.
- Different charts are more suited for different information. Make sure you utilize the correct type of chart, as well as make the information as clear as possible to the audience.
- Color is an extremely powerful tool, and you can use it to draw the audience’s attention to certain aspects of your presentation or to help evoke a certain feeling or mood.
- Utilize two complementary fonts, MAXIMUM. Sans- serif fonts are better for presentations, while serif fonts were designed to help read small text.
- Utilize media such as audio or video from youtube to keep your audience engaged in your presentation.
- Your presentation should flow from slide to slide, information on a previous slide should lead into the next, so as not to confuse your audience and to make the topic seem as simple as possible.
