2. Topic
The topic we have chosen to do our documentary
on is chocolate. As a group we all decided to do this
as we were brainstorming ideas and finally came
up with chocolate.
3. Type
We have decided that our documentary will be
mixed as it will include both interviews with
different professionals and cutaways too. It will
not conform to just one type of documentary.
4. Style
Our documentary is aimed at an audience of teenagers
and older, this is because our topic would not interest an
older audience as much as a younger one, we will also
keep it formal. In order to make it relevant we are going
to interview different types of professionals such as,
doctors, historians and to develop ideas about different
cultures. Also, to keep the documentary interesting we
will include music to keep the viewers engaged, cutaways
and archive footage.
5. Channel and Scheduling
We have chosen Channel 4 to air our documentary on as our questionnaire
feedback demonstrated that this would be the best channel for it alongside the
target audience. Our documentary will be shown on a Tuesday at 7:30pm –
8:00pm as this is relevant to other programmes on around this time such as,
The Great British Bake Off because it focuses on the same topics as our
documentary and is a baking show which obviously revolves around food. Also,
as we are airing our documentary at this time of the day, we are hoping to
inherit ‘The Bake Off’s’ audience. Also, this channel varies across a wider and
bigger audience which means our documentary would get a lot of views. We
decided on this time to show it because this is when most people are at home
and had their tea and are sitting down to relax and reach out to quite a mature
audience.
6. Target Audience
Our audience will be teenagers and just a little bit olderas
our results proved that an older audience will not be
engaged with our topic. This is much more of an disinterest
towards the older generation; apart from the history of
chocolate. We will choose to edit and work around this and
make our documentary more likeable towards the audience
we are working with. Our documentary is more focussed on
the younger generation.
7. Primary Research
For this , we completed and handed our audience a
questionnaire about chocolate in order to engage with our
audience and find out as much as possible. We have
decided that we will be researching chocolate and any
sort of involvement in the food industry such as, factories
/ or any sort of food worker.
8. Secondary Research
We will be researching archive material of farmers
working/potatoes being planted/ restaurants serving food.
Or simply anything we can find that relates towards this
topic. Or even commercials that involve some sort of potato
endorsed aspect. This is so that our audience is more
engaged with the information we use/more aware.
9. Narrative structure
Our documentary will be linear as we will talk about
the history of chocolate and how it is made e.t.c. This
will run in chronological order and will also be
somewhat multi-stranded as we will also be talking
about the different types of chocolate and what
people use it for in different cultures.
10. Outline of content
The outline of our content will include interviews with
people like doctors and professionals in the business
e.g. factory workers or older people who know some
history behind chocolate and how it is used in other
cultures.
11. Resource requirements
For our documentary to be completed to a good
standard, the items we will need to use are an HD
camera, tripod, microphone, interviewees, the
correct software to be able to edit the videos and
input archive footage.
