Editor's Notes

  1. Rudolf the bright abdomened bug, Had a trait of a very lit up bottom (like a light bulb). And if you ever saw it (saw it), You would even say it glows (cause it really did).
  2. All of the other insects, Used to laugh and call him names (like light switch). They never let poor Rudolf (Rudolf), Join in any little bug games (like tag).
  3. Then one ominous day, a volcano erupted, The smoke blocked out all the sun, And the other bugs couldn’t see one another.
  4. When it came time to find a girlfriend Rudolf’s adaptation increased his fitness in the dark environment helped him to find a mate, Lucinda, who could light up also.
  5. All the other bugs couldn’t find each other to reproduce so they didn’t…and died without passing on their genes due to the natural selection of the dark environment.
  6. The two individuals, Rudolf and Lucinda, with their glowing abdomen adaptation had lots and lots of little lighting babies.
  7. Then there was a change in allelic frequencies in the bug population, meaning evolution had occurred.
