Our Industrial Modeling Service (IMS) involves several important (but rarely implemented) methods to significantly improve and advance your existing models and data. Since it is well-known that good decision-making requires good models and data, IMS is ideally suited to support this continuous-improvement endeavour. IMS is specifically designed to either co-exist with your existing design, planning, scheduling, etc. applications or these same models and data can be used seamlessly into our Industrial Modeling and Programming Language (IMPL) to create new value-added applications. The following techniques form the basis of our IMS offering.

Continuously improving the accuracy and precision of planning and scheduling models is not new; unfortunately it is not institutionalized in practice. The intent of this paper is to highlight a relatively simple approach to historize or memorize past and present actual planning and scheduling data collected into what we call the past rolling horizon (PRH). The PRH is identical to the future rolling horizon (FRH) used in hierarchical production planning and model predictive control to manage omnipresent uncertainty in the model and data. Instead of optimizing future decisions such as throughputs, operating-modes and conditions we now optimize or estimate key model parameters. Although bias-updating using a single time-sample of data is common practice in advanced process control and optimization to incorporate “parameter” feedback, this is only realizable for real-time applications with comprehensive measurement systems. Proposed in this paper is the use of multiple synchronous or asynchronous time-samples in the past in conjunction with simultaneous reconciliation and regression to update a subset of the model parameters on a past rolling horizon basis to improve the performance of planning and scheduling models.

The exposition presents 30 unedited works of art (acrylics on canvas), in which the subject is the theme of “liberation from sin” with the title of Tiqqun (Hebrew). The artistic approach is resultant of a research on the area of “sin/liberation”, in its most diverse interpretations which determine the spiritual rules existent in the history of humanity. This study incites on the Jewish belief of “Isaac Lúria” (XVI century) and in which the characters represented in the pieces of are, cast back into the time they lived in. The message behind the exposition is the relationship bodies/ vestments, and sin/freedom in which the characters open and extend themselves out of the canvas in a thousand colors of light when the spirit thus asks for it. Created the theory of “The color of the vestments free”, the emptied bodies mutilated by guilt seize to exist because sin works in and out in of each being. It is as if the liberation is progressed through the colored vestments and not through the body of each being exposed. The exposition is in the majority made up of feminine figures whose vestments transpire multiple vaults of strong colors as if they freed or exulted sins committed in the past and which flash in ones´ consciouness. In all of them is the black shadow which recuts or makes relevant the affective atmosphere provoking passiveness, euphoria, indigerence and resignation. It is up to each individual person to interpret; select; choose and aculeate the way the figures live out on the plastic surfaces represented be in euphoria be it in lethargic. Maria Sobral Mendonça

The ILP and INL files are considered as “foreign” sub-models that can be used to augment or extend an existing or non-foreign model in IMPL (Industrial Modeling and Programming Language). IMPL supports including only one foreign sub-model i.e., either a single ILP file or a single INL file but not both and multiple ILP or INL files are also not allowed. These foreign files are inputted by the IMPL Modeler only after the entire non-foreign model has been created or generated. These foreign files are useful to add or inject ad hoc, bespoke or custom variables and/or constraints into the overall model or problem.

Presented in this document is a short description on how to construct a flowsheet or superstructure using the open-source Dia as the drawing tool (similar to Microsoft Visio) and the open-source Python as the programming language to write out the construction data of the flowsheet into a UPS file. The benefit of using a drawing package such as Dia is that it is a graphical or visual representation of the construction and connectivity data of the industrial optimization problem (IOP) with respect to its flow network, graph or diagram i.e., nodes and directed arcs. The alternative is to configure or populate the structures, shapes or objects in a spreadsheet or data file which can be problematic and difficult to interpret i.e., “a picture is worth a thousand words”.
