The author took a hike along the Howth Cliff walks near Dublin, Ireland. They took the DART train to Howth and followed signposted trails along the cliffs and coastline, observing seabirds and seals. Key points along the hike included Bailey Lighthouse and hidden Red Rock Beach, where the author took a dip in the Irish Sea. The 12km trail offered beautiful scenery of Dublin Bay and hidden paths.

1. A short visit to Dublin that I particularly enjoyed:
Howth Cliff walks

2. The DART line makes it easy for you to get to Howth, in the North of Dublin. Thus, at Dublin City’s doorsteps, from the Howth
DART station, you only have to walk along the harbour prior heading upwards towards the cliffs.
3. There are 4 versions of this trail with variations of length
and difficulty. I went for the 12-kilometer one, for its
hidden paths and treasures.
It starts in the Howth village at the railway station !
I only had to carefully follow the signposted « purple

4. To explore this peninsula and its rugged coastline, its rich and unique flora and fauna, the mariage
of land and sea or just for the beautiful views of Dublin Bay.
A large number of seabirds can be observed and, on clear days, even grey seals might be seen.
5. When I finally manage to leave the summit to continue
along the track, it did not take me long to reach Bailey
Lighthouse and its (again!) gorgeous views. Walking
away from the lighthouse, I had been advised to seek
for a tiny and almost hidden track to my left, which I
gladly found to continue on my hike.

6. And this is where the real treasures are! A lot less crowded. Coves, a magnificent vantage point of Dublin and
hidden beaches seemed to await for me! Having taken my swim gear, hoping for such discovery, I reached Red
Rock Beach, a lovely, hidden, well-preserved and calm beach where I took my courage in both hands and went
for a brief dip in the Irish Sea.
