2. There are two different kinds of snakes:
some lay eggs and some give birth to
live babies.
3. SNAKES THAT GIVE BIRTH TO LIVE BABIES
Some snakes give
birth to live young:
all boas,
all vipers,
garter snakes.
4. SNAKES THAT LAY EGGS
Some snakes lay
eggs:
all pythons,
king-snakes,
milk-snakes,
rat snakes,
corn snakes.
All newborn snakes have an egg tooth to break
through the egg shell. The egg tooth falls out the
first time snake sheds its skin.
Unlike the hard shells of bird and turtle eggs,
snakes eggs are leathery.
5. RATTLESNAKES
Rattlesnake eggs will
stay inside their
mother until they
hatch. Most of the
time there are 8-10
babies born at once,
and they are about
10 inches long.
Babies are born
venomous but
cannot rattle and are
often more
aggressive than the
adults.
