The passage describes a "monster" who was once a boy that was mercilessly teased by others. To escape the teasing, he horribly amputated his own ears and cut out his tongue to stop his cries of pain. He finally removed his own eyes so his pitiful glance would not bother anyone anymore. While the monster now has a hideous appearance, the passage argues that none of us are better than him, despite his current form.

Although that may sound absolutely impossible,
if you are able to look at the monster
with eyes of a child,
you can still recognize the innocent being
that inhabits within him.
Do memory, I beg, you people should remember!
He was a boy when he horribly amputated his own

since he could not bear your merciless teasing.
He cut his tongue because it seemed
that his poignant cries of pain displeased you.
He finally took off his both eyes
so as to his pitiful glance could not bother you
anymore.
Shall we throw the monster in the dark pit of
death,
but we should keep in mind that,
despite his hideous appearance,
none of us is better than him.
MONSTRE
Malgrat que puga semblar del tot impossible, si sou capaços de mirar el
monstre amb ulls d’infant, podreu reconèixer l’ésser innocent que encara
l’habita. Feu memòria, us ho suplico, recordeu! Ell era un nen quan es va
amputar cruelment les orelles, ja que no podia suportar les vostres
despietades burles. Es va tallar la llengua perquè semblava que els seus
commovedors crits de dolor us disgustaven. Es va arrancar tots dos ulls,
finalment, perquè la seua mirada llastimosa no us poguera incomodar mai
més. Llancem el monstre a l’obscur pou de la mort, però tinguem sempre
present que, malgrat la seua horrorosa aparença, ningú de nosaltres no és
millor que ell.
