This document discusses the key elements of complete sentences and identifies common sentence errors. A complete sentence requires a subject and a predicate. Fragments are incomplete sentences missing one of these elements, while run-ons improperly join two independent clauses without correct punctuation. There are four basic sentence types: declarative, exclamatory, imperative, and interrogative which are distinguished by their ending punctuation.

2. A complete sentence must have:
• Subject-The noun or pronoun that tells who or
what the sentence is about
• Predicate-The verb or action that tells what
the subject is doing.

3. Complete Subject:
All of the words in the subject
Ex: The girl in the green jacket ran the fastest.
Complete Predicate:
All of the words in the predicate.
Ex: My best friend went to the dentist yesterday.

4. Fragment:
• An incomplete sentence-missing the subject
or predicate
Ex: The girl on my soccer team
– (missing the predicate)
Ex: Loves his dog Boomer
(missing the subject)

5. Run-On
Two or more sentences joined together without correct
punctuation:
Ex: My team won the game we were so excited!
FIX with a comma + joining word:
My team won the game, and we were so excited!
FIX with a period and capital letter (make 2 sentences):
My Team won the game. We were so excited!
A run-on cannot be fixed with JUST a comma!

6. 4 Types of Sentences
Declarative: Makes a statement; ends with (.)
Ex: The lady on my street has 3 dogs.
Exclamatory: Shows strong feeling; ends with (!)
Ex: That was the best game ever!
Imperative: Command/request; ends with (.) or (!)
Ex: Bring me a bucket of water for the garden.
Ex: Leave this room right now!
Interrogative: Asks a question. Ends with (?)
Ex: My I have a piece of candy?
