A village in northeast Iran called Kandovan has been inhabited for over 700 years, with villagers living in cave homes carved directly into the volcanic rock face of Mount Sahand. The oldest houses in Kandovan date back 700 years, with the villagers continuing to reside in the naturally formed rock shelters and passages.
