Technology Cinemas The multiplex cinema Is upgrading cinema by bringing up ratings  since 1984, now some reckon they will be hitting 200 million. The comfort and other aspects has changed (e.g. the seats) over the last 20 years. The locations of the cinema also plays an important part in how new technology  Has increased audience knowledge. Reviews The critics agree that if you're looking for a big, plenty-of-bang-for-your-buck action blockbuster, I Am Legend is probably going to be the movie to help you sweat out some of those festive season toxins. A lightning-paced ride through a post-apocalyptic Manhattan where all the human beings bar Will Smith have been killed by a virus or transformed into zombie-like killers, this is a truly Hollywood movie, with all the positives and negatives that entails. As The Movie Blog notes, there is "a little bit more to Legend than just popcorn. Not much, but a little.“ "I find that digital, rage-filled zombies halve in dramatic interest with every second that passes," writes our own Peter Bradshaw. "No one, though, could fail to be impressed by the gobsmacking digital creations of an empty, ruined Manhattan, a jungle with real zoo-bred animals roaming around." "Smith deliver a surprisingly moving performance as he wanders empty New York streets going slowly ga-ga," writes the BBC's Jamie Russell. "Some cartoonish CGI and a mangled screenplay that misses the novel's point are downsides but the apocalyptic vision brings definite chills.“ Carina Chocano of the LA Times likens the movie to that other tale of post-apocalyptic zombies, 28 Days Later, except with a hero who is rather better equipped to deal with the disastrous circumstances in which he finds himself. "Conversely, the good guy here is no incidental plebe," she writes. "He's Robert Neville (Smith), thank you very much, decorated colonel, brilliant scientist, fortification specialist, booby trap whiz, moneybags, babe magnet, art collector, dog lover, hunter, gatherer, officer, gentleman, you name it.“ Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times, meanwhile, wishes studio executives hadn't felt compelled to meddle with the details of the 1954 sci-fi tale by Robert Matheson upon which the film is based. "In the original novel Neville cultivated garlic and used mirrors, crosses and sharpened stakes against his enemies, who were like traditional vampires, not super-strong zombies," he writes. "I am not sure it is an advance to make him a scientist, arm him and change the nature of the creatures; Matheson developed a kind of low-key realism that was doubly effective.“ What did you think of I Am Legend? Codes/forms and Conventions A silent title which has a voice over this instantly grabs the watchers attention. Then there are shots of the television with the voice finding its root. The conversation is vital for the narrative. The three years later at the bottom of the screen makes the watcher curious to what has happened. Black out, slow pan up of a wide shot of a city left in destruction. Gives the watcher the location of the city – New York City Silence – only non digetic sounds of birds which shows irony as New York is the city known for “The city which never sleeps” Shots changes of all the destruction which adds to the narrative.  Over head shot – gives an overall view of the desolate area. The feel of desolation and entrapment – connotation of a thriller film. Over head shot then shows only one car moving First shot of a hand on a gun, connotation of danger, something bad could happen? Pans up to a man wearing a black jacket give the first impression he could be a dangerous character. Shows dog which conveys the innocence about the man as he lets the dog stick its head out the window of the car. The dog and man could represent how people rely on animals as company rather than humans. The birds flying away show little is left Over the shoulder shot of him driving, shows abandoned cars and how no one is there. Low angle shot of him turning
The red car symbolises danger that he is living in this dangerous environment. Also it seems the car seems bright which a contrast against the destruction. Zoom in a shot of the sign “god still loves us” shows how normally people follow religion and rely on it, but the ripped poster show how faith has failed. Low angle shot of the car driving towards the camera and then turning shows the dominance of the car. Driving underneath a construction site shows there are no rules or boundaries this man has to keep to, which adds to the narrative. Pan view of the buildings covered in plastic sheets adds to the connotation of desolation. Speaking to the dog shows he is relying on it. The animals then jumping out captured the watcher as everything was so quite and lifeless, no music. Quick shots, add to the pace. Low shot of his number plates. Quick panning views of the animals running away from the car. Contrast as the car is the only thing opposing the animals where normally it is much more than one man, like it showing the world going into a cycle. Contrast as the man is confined into the car and animals are free, whereas animals are normally kept in cages in zoos and the human are free. When the animals disappear into a gap, he looks frustrated and angry like its something that happens regularly, this adds to the narrative.  Codes/forms and Conventions 2

Zoom in a shot of the sign “god still loves us” shows how normally people follow religion and rely on it, but the ripped poster show how faith has failed. Low angle shot of the car driving towards the camera and then turning shows the dominance of the car. Driving underneath a construction site shows there are no rules or boundaries this man has to keep to, which adds to the narrative. Pan view of the buildings covered in plastic sheets adds to the connotation of desolation. Speaking to the dog shows he is relying on it. The animals then jumping out captured the watcher as everything was so quite and lifeless, no music. Quick shots, add to the pace. Low shot of his number plates. Quick panning views of the animals running away from the car. Contrast as the car is the only thing opposing the animals where normally it is much more than one man, like it showing the world going into a cycle. Contrast as the man is confined into the car and animals are free, whereas animals are normally kept in cages in zoos and the human are free.
