Where & What are the Eurovelo Routes?
What is EuroVelo ?
EuroVelo is a network of 17 long distance cycle routes
connecting and uniting the whole European continent. The
routes can be used by cycle tourists as well as by local
people making daily journeys. EuroVelo currently comprises
of 17 routes totaling over 90,000km of cycling itineraries.
How many Eurovelo Routes in Ireland?
Eurovelo 1 - Atlantic Coast Route - crossing with
proposed Red Route corridor around
Kinvara/Ballinderreen
Eurovelo 2 - Capitals Road - currently ending in
Athlone - once the RedRoute Corridor Greenway
becomes a route, Red Route 5 will be the route that
Eurovelo2 will follow from Athlone onwards

Investment
World class cycle infrastructure with a budget of 80 - 100 million for recreational tourism that
encourages slow tourism in a now “lagging” West Region
Check out this Podcast by the Western Development commission about the future of small towns,
with contributions of Paul Glynn, MD of TopForm in Gort, emphasising the need to create “demand”
