2. Brief
Our AS task was to create a media product that
appealed to our target audience of 15 +.
After months of creating it, we showed it to our
audience and we got our feedback to base this
evaluation on.
Our genre is a hybrid genre of teen-drama and horror
as we wanted something that would entertain
everyone while doing something outside the box.
3. Production timeline

4. Production and research
Before we planned the synopsis we had a made a survey
for our target audience
This is our survey

=player_embedded&safe=active
We also had a Facebook poll since it is very popular
among our target audience.
5. Research and planning
Our product is mostly based on two films, twilight and
Jennifer's body.
We chose these films as most people that fit into out
target audience like teen movies with vampires in them so
we decided to use the top 2 films that include vampires.
6. Research and planning -
twilight
Example of teen drama
Casual clothing (MES) – convention we
used
Love and romance is presented –
convention we used, some of the target
audience can relate to
Colour grading (Editing) – convention we
used to give dramatic look
Conventions of teen drama, high school,
and fantasy
7. Reserch and planning –
jennifers body
Example of teen horror
Casual clothing (MES) – convention we
used
broke stereotypes – female killer, uses
religion as defence for killing people
vampire/villain – convention we used
Conventions of teen drama/horror - high
school, hot girl, desperate boys and
fantasy
8. Research and planning
Example of teen comedy
Conventions of teen comedy :
Casual clothing (MES) – convention we used
House setting – typical teen comedy as most
teen comedies have house parties, this
opening scene could suggest this is were the
party is taking place
Alcohol and drugs – some teens can relate
too
high school, desperate boys, fantasy and
„wanna be‟s‟
10. Similarities and differences
Our opening sequence shares a lot of similarities with
„twilight‟ as it is about love sick teens. It also introduces
the stereotypical characters.
However it is different because we show a lot of the
location.
The plot was influenced by and twilight
Ethnicity – no white or black main characters
11. Conventions
Set in school fields, relates to target audience
Costume, typical teen style but yet makes the character
look unique
Slow beat
Love sick teens
Camera shots, close ups
Color grading
12. Stereotypes
breaks the common stereotype of an „Asian teen‟
Stereotypical Asian teen –
hair typed back (greasy)
Normally knows as a nerd/goody good/ teachers pet
Not allowed near boys
SUBVERTED STEREOTYPICAL
In love
13. Comparison of character
Our main character is
comparable to a
character from twilight,
bella as she falls in love
14. DISTUBTORS
The main distributor of our product would be 20TH
Centaury fox as they have distributed teen dramas
before such as „Jennifer's body‟ and „Donnie darko‟
Since they have had experience working with
movies in this genre, they could distribute our movie.
They are also very fond of distributing UK films to
get their name known.
We believe that our product can be distributed
internationally as the drama is not specific to Britain
and can be appealing to USA also.
Summit distribution or contender films could be a
likely choice as they are the main distributors of
„twilight‟ in the UK and US .
15. Establishment
TV would be the best way to introduce our product
trailer as channels such as e4 can show it on their
channel.
E4 is known for its teenager/young audience
shows which have won BAFTAs between them
Another channel
it can be shown on is bbc three as
teenager/young audience shows are shown there
after the watershed
Our product could be scheduled in-between
popular shows to gather interest similarly to what
bbc three did.
Our sequence Falls under „Entertain‟ of bbc ethos
and „Inspire change‟ of channel 4‟s ethos.
16. Audience
Our primary target audience would consist of teenagers
the ages of 15-18 years of age
This could appeal to male and female. Male because of
the attractive main character and females because of the
popularity twilight had

17. Audience Feedback - Misce en
scene
Mise-en-scene is a vital role to how we attracted our
audience.
It is set in school – relatable since our audience still goes
to school. Verisimilitude.
We are all wearing typical teen clothes which again can
show we are appealing to the target audience.
18. Audience Feedback- Genre
Our genre of teen-drama-horror is a hybrid which hasn‟t been
seen that prevalently before so this would catch their attention.
I think this would grab a lot of teens attention because of the
exclusive plot and genre, linking drama and horror together as
well as a popular demand of teen movies. “Mohammed Abboud”
Recently, a movie with our genre has also been released called
„twilight- breaking dawn part2‟. “Shaan Masih”
19. Audience Feedback-
Engagement
Our audience feedback from the rough cut – I think you
should reshoot and use costume more creatively. “kaythes
muhanthan”.
I would advise you to show the villain as more of a villain,
for example more scary make up/ costume. “Anand Shivji
We also reshot the establishing shot of a park which is
suppose to be a „hang out‟ area for people from the
school, so it was obvious that we in school.
We were advised to have a slow beat with a heavy bass
beat to create the suspense
20. Audience Feedback –
promotion
We used popular websites for our target audience such as
Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to promote our group and
our product.
This meant that they could see an update on our
Facebook page which informed them of a new video on
YouTube.
Wordpress was also used as we created a blog which
updated frequently on what was happening and when our
videos would be posted.
21. Camera work
Dslr
Tripod – improvised tripod(mic stand)
Standing on high buildings to get high shots
Camera transitions e.g. panning shots and not shaking
for a professional touch.
22. Camera shots
~ Establishing Shot / Panning Shot *Park Scenery
We used these shots
~ Arc Shot *Couple Walking as they can show a lot
~ Arc Shot *Couple Walking without any dialogue.
They can also show the
~ Long Shot *Couple distantly walking away significance of an
character and a
~ Shaky Cam – Panning *Couple Walking (POV) location.
~ Mid-Shot *Serial Killer
~Long Shot to Arc Shot *Couple walking to bench
~ Mid Shot *couple sitting on bench
~ Close-Up *couple sitting on bench
~ Long Shot *couple saying goodbye to one another
~ Shaky Cam *killer runs after lead character
24. Progression from preliminary
We scheduled ourselves more consistently as we decided
to shoot afterschool and during lunchtimes.
This was more effective as we could also get more actors
hanging around school Also every group member being
present meant everyone was on the same wavelength.
Our research and planning was also much better since we
already knew what to do.
We posted on our blog regularly and on time.
Scheduling was a huge issue in Preliminary task
