Electronic Industry Catalogues for Plumbing/Heating and Truck Parts
1. Plumbing/heating and truck parts industries both to publish
industry-wide, electronic catalogues on CD-ROM.
WAYNE, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 11, 1995--Automated Catalogue Services L.P. (ACS)
announced Wednesday its plans to develop two new electronic CD-ROM catalogues to be released in
1996.
The first one, published in partnership with the American Supply Association (ASA), will serve as a
master product reference for ASA, the federation of regional and national organizations serving the
Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, and Piping industry (PHCP), and will be called Source ASA.
The second, published in partnership with the Council of Fleet Specialists (CFS), will be called
CFaSt and will serve as a master product reference for CFS, the association of heavy-duty
aftermarket distributors and manufacturers.
"We are excited to offer an electronic catalogue to the entire PHCP industry. The catalogue will be
available to ASA members, as well as non-members, in order to create more standardization in the
industry and enable our members to remain competitive," said Inge Calderon, the executive vice
president of ASA.
Bill Mutz, CFS incoming president, added, "This electronic catalogue will do more to increase the
productivity of the independent heavy-duty aftermarket than everything else we're already doing
with computers."
2. Electronic industry reference catalogues provide users instantly accessible, comprehensive product
information from industry manufacturers, all in one easy-to-use database. Updated and distributed
monthly on CD-ROM, the catalogues ensure accurate, up-to-date product information at each user's
fingertips.
The powerful searching features save users hours of looking through piles of paper catalogues for
the product information they need. Users can search by manufacturer, product category, part
number, or by typing in a key word or phrase. Some of the information contained in the databases
includes electronic replicas of catalogue pages, as well as list prices, shipping information, CAD
symbols, and line art.
Automated Catalogue Services L.P. is a division of VNU-USA, a worldwide publisher of business
media. ACS has been publishing electronic catalogues on CD-ROM since 1991, and currently
produces 12 other industry-reference catalogues.
3. ACS also produces end-user catalogues which distributors provide to their customers. An example of
the latter is Source2000, which is produced by ACS for Baxter Healthcare, and includes over 80,000
products used by the medical and scientific community.
