09.00‐10.00 Introduction to Wai Khru
This workshop covers an introduction to the Wai Khru. As in all sports it is essential to
prepare your body prior to exercise in order to avoid injuries especially in Muaythai
which covers every body part. This ancient dance pays homage to the masters,
teachers, coaches and trainers promoting a healthy body and mind.

10.00‐11.00 Punching The use of the fist is an essential part of Muaythai and comes in various forms such as
the hook and cross. Great care must be taken before utilising the punch as if not
performed properly one can sustain a serious injury.

09.00‐10.00 Kicking The use of kicks and footwork play a vital role in the art of Muaythai. Legs serve as
long range weapons and can also be used to defend the body by teeping your
opponent while precise footwork can enhance the overall balance and power
generated by a fighter.

10.00‐11.00 Kneeing The knee is another important part of the Muaythai arsenal and a valued scoring
tool. Knees are executed at short range and great care needs to be taken when
practicing in order to avoid injury.

09.00‐10.00 Elbowing The use of the elbow is considered by many as a secret weapon and is performed at
short‐range. There are a variety of elbows which can be learnt and performed with
precision. Before applying your elbow, work in practice with your sparring partner,
you need to understand it theoretically in order to prevent possible injury and
accident.

10.00‐11.00 Basic Self‐Defence
Blocking and self‐defence are crucial when learning Muaythai as the opposite of
attack is defence. Good self‐defence presents you with the basic stances and moves
when protecting yourself in Muaythai. Through good understanding of defence the
student is able to wait for the right moment and land a timely retort.

09.00‐10.00 Techniques
Practitioners of Muaythai techniques need to know the goal of each technique and at
the same time learn the way to counter it. The countering techniques depend largely
on fighting instinct and the agility/speed of each person. These techniques include
warding off, guarding, swerving, ducking, springing, elbow, thrust, punch, knee strike,
direct defense, swiveling, etc. When mastered, these techniques can be modified and
applied in the ring without having to do everything by the book.

10.00‐12.00 Strategies
Strategies in Muaythai are crucial in order to get the better of your opponent.
Through an array of combinations and tactics any battle can be turned by utilising
fists, feet, knees, and elbows for offensive and defensive purposes. To master the art
of Muaythai, fighting requires regular practice of striking and defending maneuvers,
the names of which have been adapted for easy recollection.

12.00‐13.00 The Art of Wai Khru (Advanced)
Learn to perform the ancient ritual of Wai Khru at the highest level. The Wai Khru
symbolises the respect for masters, teachers, coaches and trainers. It is not only the
way to study the stance and fighting style of the opponent, but also the best way to
eliminate stress and prepare body and mind to be ready for battle.
