Editor's Notes
Why are we going there? Why should we care for plants in our natural world?
How do we impact on the environment? The La Mesa Watershed, the last forest of its size within Metro Manila, is the source of water for over 12 million people in Metro Manila. However, in May 1999, the La Mesa was in a devastated state characterized by illegal settlers occupying wide tracts of land within the watershed area, vast hillside clearings because informal settlers maintain upland farms planted with corn, cassava, banana, and rice; slash-and-burn (kaingin) activities, several large breaches on the concrete wall of La Mesa, and timber poaching among others. La Mesa Eco Park was started in 2004 to preserve and protect the watershed.
