Amelia Earhart was born in 1897 in Kansas and became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932. She also achieved several other firsts as a female pilot, including being the first person to fly solo from Hawaii to California and Los Angeles to Mexico City. In 1937, Earhart disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean during an attempt to circumnavigate the globe by airplane.
