These are the test results taken at Lehman Hot Springs by the EPA when their was concern by Oregon DEQ that the sewage lagoons were leaking. The acceptable level of E-coli in Oregon rivers and streams is 406 per 100 ML. Therefore, the water IN the sewage lagoon of concern was 1/10th of the legally acceptable levels in streams! 95% of the water in the sewage lagoon was storm water from the snow melt, not sewage. The source was isolated just days after the event. . The reference to "seeps" are what we know to be naturally occurring springs at Lehman Springs along Warm Springs Creek. EPA tests at the toe of slope were 8.4 and therefore not coming from the sewer lagoon per EPA tests results. E-coli levels were actually higher in the creek above the lagoons than the area of concern. I had an epiphany the other day as I couldn't figure out why Oregon DEQ testified in court that they never tested the "seeps" for E-coli. Why would this be if they were making public claims that the sewage lagoons at Lehman were leaking? Why wouldn't they provide scientific evidence to back up their claims? The reason is that the water actually in the sewage lagoon was well below the acceptable level, so there was no reason to test what they were claiming were seeps, because they already knew that their claims were false. The EPA later came up with DEQ and put orange dye in the lagoon at the area where they suspected a tear in the liner. After two days of testing the results were negative. Once both ponds were completely emptied (at considerable expense) no tears were in the liners below the high water mark so it simply could not have happened. You won't read this in the Oregonian
