Introduction: Tara (voiceover): background with music and photos
Voiceover- Tara: Black History Month involves many historic events that took place in America.
People like Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr. Rosa Parks and many more took action to
seek rights for African Americans. In Particular, the Civil Rights Movement is a part of history.
The story of 14-year old Emmett Till is what started it all.
(Music changes, pictures of Emmitt Till)
Voiceover continues
Tara: (shares Emmitt Till Story) Emmett Till of Chicago was on summer vacation with relatives
when he apparently whistled at a white woman whose husband was a Ku Klux Klan member.
The husband and his friend kidnapped beat and shot Till and threw him in the Tallahatchie River.
The killers were acquitted, but Till’s unrecognizable and brutalized face displayed in his casket
drove the Civil Rights movement

Tara: Today, we will make another highlight in Black History Month. We are having an event
take place, right now at The University of Bridgeport. Wheeler Parker will discuss and take us
back to the late 50s in detail of what happened to his decreased cousin, Emmitt Till. Today, we
hope that people will hear about an unsolved, heinous murder that led to the Civil Rights
Movement and know this death was not in vain. Today, we are going to Witness History.
