Located in Canada’s Jasper National Park, the Athabasca Pass remains one of its
most popular national historic sites. In January 1811, the explorer David
Thompson first crossed the Rocky Mountains through the pass, led by a native
Iroquois guide.

For more than 50 years, Athabasca Pass served as part of the main route of the
fur trade industry between Canada and the Oregon country. Today, the trail
attracts hikers and backpackers from across the continent. Although the trail

its splendid views of wildflower slopes and mountain lakes.
